Question about keeping avocados fresh?

Hi, I’ve recently discovered my new favorite thing to eat. Whole grain bread with mayo, avocado slices, tomato slices and salt and pepper. It is soooooo good.
Anyway, I use only half of the avocado and if I put the rest in a zip lock bag and put it in the fridge to eat the next day, it turns brown and just doesn’t seem good anymore. How can I keep an avocado fresh til the next day?

Make sure you are leaving the pit in the half that you are storing – this is an old trick, and will help keep it green. It also works if you make a bowl of guacamole – put the pit in the middle of it until you are ready to serve it.

one avocado a day

one avocado a day
one avocado a day
Is eating one avocado a day eating to many??

Not it all, the avocado has all the nutrients you need, also has good cholesterol for your heart.

But if I was you, I would only eat an avocado every third day.

The avocado contains more fat than any other fruit except the olive. Its fat is of the highest quality, wholly free from the unpleasant butyric acid with which many fats are contaminated. It contains a sufficient amount of vitamin A to maintain high resistance against bacterial infection, a quality possessed by few vegetable fats.

Mauricio

Article Source: ArticlesBase.comThe Health Benefits Of Avocado

The mistake most intertile couple make is waiting too long in getting pregant. Yes, infertility is a couple’s business and not just the woman. About 40% of the cause of infertility is blamed on the women. Another 40% is blamed on male infertility factors. Five percent is shared by the two couples and the remaining 5% is said to be due to unknown infertility factors.

Now, to get pregnant is a natural process and anytime a couple is labeled ‘infertile’, there is a problem. This is because Western medicine and their fertility doctors have little solution for infertility sufferers. Western fertility doctors are limited to harmful drugs, invasive procedures and aggressive surgery. All these methods are exercise in futility rather than fertility. Orthodox medicine has it’s limitations and boundaries that does not address the root cause of infertility in the first place.

For instance, fertility drugs like clomiphene citrate (clomid) is associated with ovarian cysts and cancer. Yes, clomid can also cause multiple pregnancy and deformed babies if they work at all. Now while trying to cure the problem of anovulation (not making eggs), clomiphene create multiple premature ovulation and exhausted ovary. The infertile woman need healthy ovary to make eggs, achieve healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.

Another cause of infertility and perhaps the most important is hormonal imbalance. The reproductive hormones are FSH, LH, Estrogen, progesterone and testesterone. Hormonal imbalance is the underlying cause of all other secondary causes of infertility like fibroids, ovarian cysts, endomytriosis, endometrial hyperplasia, irregular periods, heavy periods or lack of mensis. This is because there is a maxim in natural medicine that says, “for any symptoms (infertility in this case) or symptom complex, there is always an imbalance behind it.”

Of all these hormones mentioned above, estrogen dominance relative to progesterone stands out as the greatest cause of infertility. This is because of all sources of estrogen in the environment and it gets worse by the day. These include zenoestrogens, plant estrogens and mycoestrogens. On the other hand, far too many infertile women have low progesterone.

Remember that progesterone is the hormone of pregnancy. Its name is derived from pro-gestation meaning ‘for pregnancy’. So you must raise the level of progesterone and balance it with normal level of the good estrogen like estriol to get pregnant. Hormonal imbalance is a key infertility factor that orthodox obstetricians have failed to address. Natural pregnancy remedies can remedy this situation and pave the way for the infertile woman to get pregnant.

Here are the steps you need to take to combat female infertility, stop estrogen dominance as you balance your hormones, get pregnant and have healthy babies:

The infertile woman must learn to listen to her body and avoid all junk, processed, devitalized and chemicalized food. Eat organic non-estrogenic foods where possible. Any food that can boost fertility can cure infertility. “Anything that can prevent disease can cure it,” says Dr. Benard Jensen.

Therefore, avoid foods like soy beans, commercial vegetable oils, flaxseed, carrots, dioxins, organophosphates, stored nuts, and bread contaminated with myco-estrogens.

Aggressive cleasing and detoxification of the blood, liver, colon and the kidneys. Bitters like gentian, chaste berry (vitex), Chinese bitters, goldenseal and wormwood (also kills parasites) are paramount. This is because they also clean out the reproductive organs. Then introduce superfoods like acai, avocados, mangoes, tomatoes, and green vegetable juices. These foods also correct anomalies in the reproductive organs that set the body up for infertility. It hard to be infertile when you eat the regular recommendation of five servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Exceptions to this rule are menopause, and underlying structural abnormality of the reproductive organs. Because food is either not enough or chemicalized, all infertile couple need to supplement to boost fertility.

Now comes fertile food supplementation. For you to balance your pregnancy hormones, and regularize your period, you need a systemic enzyme blend containing nattokinase and serrapeptase. These enzymes work best with myomin which block estrogens at their receptor sites in the ovary, uterus, thyroid and fat cells. Myomin also prevents aromatization of testesterone back to harmful estrogen (estradiol). myomin also help the detoxification work of the liver and cleans out the blood while regulating the immune system.

Coupled with hormonal balance is stress management. By the time a couple is labeled infertile, the psychic component kicks in. None of us can eliminate stress; we can only control it. Mind-body connection comes to play in infertility management. I prefer to call it psycho-spiritual infertility treatment. Emotions and hormones go together. And stress is very important in body balance and getting pregnant. Large doses of vitamin C, astragulus, magnesium, zinc and vitamin B-complex (especially B6) is necessary to control stress because they balance enzymes (enzymes drive hormones) and are adaptogens that help the body cope with stress. Letting go and letting God, forgiveness and positive outlook to life are necessary to combat infertility. This is because human spirit, soul and body are alwyays considered in evaluating the infertile couple and combating infertility holistically.

Evaluation of the infertile couple must involve male infertility factors. We should not forget male infertility centered around viability of sperms. Semen analysis is central in male infertility workup. All the above fertility foods prescribed for the infertile woman is also good to boost male fertility. Food supplements balance male hormones, boost sperm count, viability, motility, longevity, and durability. Healthy sperms also withstand anti-sperm anti-bodies (hidden cause of infertility) in the woman’s reproductive tract.

fresh avocados

What would I need and know to start an avocado tree from a fresh avocado pit?

My mom used to do this all of the time. You will need 4 tooth picks that you will puncture into the sides of the avocado about 2/3 the way up the avocado. Top is the fat end, bottom is the small end. Place the picks so that they are arrange in 4ths around the avocado. Then place in a shallow container so as the water does not rise above where you place the picks., change and add water daily ( so as not to sour) Keep in a sunny windowsill until roots begin forming, They will look like tiny little hairs. Re pot in a bigger pot along with some root shock ( you can buy this at any nursery) and keep wet, not soggy but wet. They like their roots wet, but not soggy. You will plant the entire avocado under the soil. Place again in a well sunlit area, and keep warm. Within 3 weeks you should see the stock coming up. Once the avocado becomes root bound transplant to a bigger pot.
Color me red…the person below me is right about which side is up….Thank you for correcting me, otherwise it would never have sprouted. :)

As a Sydney boot camp instructor I of course get to work with scores of people and from my experience, getting the best possible results for my clients most often relies on the setting of a deadline in one form or another. In fact, a “bride to be” is perhaps one of the best examples I can think of as far as deadlines are concerned. Let’s face it, once a wedding date has been set, a woman is capable of doing what others would consider impossible, and in order to ensure that dream dress will fit her on the big day.

However, without a suitable dietary blueprint, she’ll be facing an almost impossible task because after all, diet and nutrition is what’s going to get her that lovely slim figure. Before we go any further, let me just point out that the following guidelines provided in this article have helped a vast number of our clients achieve life changing results. For the most part, our clients manage to shed an average of 2 to 3 pounds of body fat per week, while at the same time reducing their clothing size by one size per month. However, it’s important to realize that weight loss shouldn’t be your primary concern, but rather, your focus should be on an overall improvement to your health.

The Fit Bride Way of Thinking:

Eating to Increase Metabolism – Lose Fat, Not Weight

Tip 1 – Remaining Hydrated:

It simply isn’t possible to lose fat effectively when you’re dehydrated so be sure to drink two to four cups as soon as you wake up, followed by a further one or two cups every two hours throughout the day

During period of heightened activity, increase water consumption to approximately one or two cups every fifteen minutes. In order to boost your immune system and to encourage efficient recovery from exercise, it’s advisable to drink at least three cups of green tea each day because of its antioxidant properties.

Tip 2 – Eat Breakfast and Eat Often:

It’s long been known just how important it is that you eat as soon as you wake up, so make sure you do just that. Furthermore, aim to eat every 2-4 hours, thus giving you a total of 6-8 servings per day. By doing this, your body will have no choice but to feed the muscle and starve the fat, hence the reason why this is part of any effective fat loss program.

Essentially, you need to eat three main meals per day with a snack between each meal and again before bed. Additionally, you also need to consume a nutritional protein or amino acid supplement at the time of doing workouts.

Tip 3 – Stay Focused on the Essentials:

Consuming a wide range of protein derived from animal products is essential. Generally speaking; you should eat at least a fist-sized portion of meat. In addition to being the only macronutrient responsible for that sought after muscle tone, protein also causes your body to shed all that fat it’s currently storing. Additionally, protein increases metabolism and the rate at which calories are burn. Primarily, this is because your body requires twice as much energy to digest protein as it does for digesting carbohydrates and fat.

Keep in mind that in order for your body to burn fat at an optimal rate, it’s vital that you consume sufficient dietary fat such as beef, coconut oil, olive oil, eggs, nuts, avocado and full-fat cheese. Just as dietary fat is essential for stored fat to be burnt, so too is it essential for proper hormone production. The bottom line is; include a range of these natural fats with each meal.

As we all already know, eating a wide range of fruit and vegetables is critical, particularly green leafy vegetable. Here again, the general consensus is that you eat at least one green vegetable and as many other colours as you can at each meal, in order to reap maximum benefits.

So, there you have it; my three top tips to see you on your way. Follow these, and you can be rest assured that you’ll be looking great when the big day arrives. What many people don’t realize; when it comes to nutrition, you’re always better off if you keep it simple. Above all, you need to remember; it’s not about weight loss but instead, it’s about fat loss. That’s right; it’s all about shedding those unwanted inches.

Is my avocado addiction going to make me fat?

I eat 1 medium sized avocado just about everyday. I am seriously addicted to them and could care less how expensive they are now. I also eat a lot of hummus. I know there are a lot of fat and calories in these foods, but do you think there are enough to make me gain weight? I don’t exercise or diet, but eat pretty healthy because I am breastfeeding a 3 month old. I’ve plateaued at 5 lbs more than my pre-pregnancy weight and would like to loose it but don’t have the time or energy to exercise and diet. What do you think?

Of all the bad things you could eat, avocados aren’t one of them. They are high in protein and healthy fats. Eating one a day is probably going to do more good for you than harm. As long as you’re eating an otherwise healthy diet I wouldn’t change what you’re doing.

As for hummus, it depends on the brand or if it’s homemade, but as long as it’s made of vegetables and not a lot of artificial crap, it’s probably healthy.

How can I keep sushi fresh overnight?

If I make sushi in the evening, how can I keep it fresh for the following afternoon. I will be out during the day and need to do it the night before.

I plan to make veggie sushi with avocado and cucumber, maybe scalions.

Sushi is delicious, how ever it has some serious problems about keeping fresh. Even over night in your crisper covered by a plate or a paper towel, the fish will become soggy & sick.

I buy Sushi all the time, and I keep mine very fresh just by packaging it in an air tight tupper wear container.

:) Good luck!
