Can you prune an avocado tree?

Avocado trees grow huge, is there a way to prune them and keep them under 8 feet? I know we can do this with mangoes, not sure about avocado. Thanks.

Yes, it will be best time to do in the winter. After the branches are prune, you will expect to have less or sometimes none of avocados come back the following year due to the cutting. It needs time to recover their cut. Good luck.

There are several synthetic alternatives you could choose, each of which claims the same benefits as avocado butter, but have you really considered their benefits and the truth of what they claim? Do you understand the meaning of that large ingredients list? Let’s digress for just a short while and discuss the vitamin and supplement industry.

Avocado – or avocado, as it is known in some countries is a result of Mexican origin very rich in oil similar to olive and canola, which also used a lot as well as previously stated in the field of health and aesthetics, is also widely used at present and pharmaceutical trade. This fruit is usually used as a vegetable in a large quantity of prepared salads gastronomic especially due to its delicate and smooth taste. It is worth mentioning that the avocado is not only rich in oil but also on other natural elements such as monounsaturated fats, minerals, fiber, pro-vitamin A, vitamin C, folic acid, pyridoxine and antioxidants useful for the agency to continue its functions properly.

Avocados offer numerous health and beauty benefits. Being an exotic plant, a lot of us don’t include it in our daily diet. If you thing about it, how often do you purchase oranges and how often do you purchase avocados? Majority of us don’t consume this magical fruit as much as we should! According to Chinese medicine, the avocado has the ability to build blood and yin, harmonize the liver, and lubricate the lungs as well as the intestines. Aside from the Chinese medicine benefits, this particular fruit is also high in monounsaturated fat. When we hear these words we automatically assure that the fruit is calorie laden and fattening; however, that is not the case.

The avocado got its name from the ancient Aztec word for “testicle.” Maybe that’s why men once thought eating avocados would boost their virility.

In earlier times, avocado pulp was used as a hair pomade to stimulate hair growth and to help heal wounds. Native Americans treated dysentery and diarrhea with its seeds. Even today, its oil can be found in many cosmetics.

How can I make an avocado salad?

I had a taco salad the other day at a Mexican restaurant, and for the first time, I tried an raw avocado, and it was really good. I bought some avocados and want to incorporate it into my green salad.

avocado. wow. my fav. can be eaten in soooo many simple ways. by it;s self with ANY mix of onions(red white pearl yellow shallots) garlic tomato cilantro parsley salt pepper vin lemon lime any green spinach lettce anything it is such a versatile flavor. sub mayo in sandwhiches for avocado ( or dont sub just add avocado) smash it into your rice for veggie flavored rice. or add to chicken soups before serving. look into using avocados as your serving dish for many things.

There are many benefits to use avocado butter, not the least of them that it makes your skin look alive, vibrant and full of health. Add to that the fact that it is completely natural, and it becomes a very attractive choice as an addition to your range of preferred skin care products.

Supplements are available in almost any shape and form:  vitamins, minerals and even complex mixtures known as athletic supplements are marketed as being effective in improving fitness, stamina and just about any other health benefit you can imagine. Yet the experts are still out on the difference between the actual benefits claimed for these and those realized in practice.  They are not necessarily the same, and there are some real biochemical reasons for that.

The reason is synergy.  That word relates to different substances working better together than either could apart. Take the example of a secretary and the guy that delivers her letters by courier.  To outsiders, the secretary is great at getting these letters and invoices delivered on time. However, that is meaningless if the courier is not on duty – it gets delivered a day late.

In the same way, many vitamins and minerals are well known for their beneficial effects, but there is no point in taking a calcium supplement if the couriers – magnesium and vitamins C and D – are missing! They are the substances that actually take the calcium into your bone structure. That is why natural sources are better:  they have the courier and the secretary provided in the one package, just as they should be. That is also why avocado butter is a far superior skin care substance than any synthetic product.

It contains the antioxidant vitamins A, E and D that kill of the free radicals that age your skin. A very scientific and comforting explanation of how it works, unlike that of the synthetic emulsified oils, containing surfactants that can damage your skin, rather than help it, and other even more toxic substances. It contains a natural sunscreen that protects your skin and hair from the damaging effects of the ultraviolet radiation of the sun.

Avocado butter also contains lecithin and unsaturated fatty acids that are beneficial to your skin, and it melts at only 30C – 35C making it very easy to apply tom your skin.
It can be used to moisturize dry skin ad it can also help to reduce the appearance of age spots, sometimes referred to as liver spots, caused by the oxidation of fatty deposits just under your skin.

So, don’t use these potentially toxic artificial labeled products, but try pure avocado oil next time you are looking for a skin care product.  You won’t regret it, and will likely be hooked on it for life: your skin certainly will!

Nearly every woman and an increasing number of men use facial moisturizers daily. Does the one you use today, contain any anti-aging and anti-wrinkle ingredients?

Naturally, a cream including substances capable of reducing fine lines and wrinkles helps make skin smoother and more youthful looking. After all that’s what we’re all trying to achieve by applying an anti-wrinkle face moisturizer daily.

A moisturizing cream is meant to help hydrate facial tissue cells by adding water. It’s also designed to minimize water loss by improving the skins water holding capacity. If you use a good quality cream containing natural emollients, antioxidants and oils in high active amounts you get an excellent result.

However, consider for a moment what can be achieved by including some special unique ingredients. That are capable of boosting your own bodies levels of collagen and elastin protein cells, to help remove fine lines and improve on those deeper wrinkles.

By using an effective moisturizer daily, you will notice an immediate improvement to your skins tone and texture. However, a little more patience is needed for the anti-wrinkle ingredients to kick in. Consistent daily application is the secret.

Some good natural emollient and anti-oxidant moisturizing and hydrating ingredients worth noting are — D-Panthenol… Macadamia Oil… Shea Butter… Jojoba Oil… Avocado oil… Crodamol CP… and Glycerin.

Substances proven in clinical trials to boost collagen and elastin re-growth and remove fine lines and wrinkles are Cynergy TK”(TM)”… and Lipobelle H-EQ10 (a special type of Coenzyme Q10).

I don’t know about you, but it makes good sense to me, to use a dual-purpose skin cream with the ability to moisturize and reduce wrinkles at the same time. Especially, if competitively priced.

We all want a nice smooth well-moisturized face with fewer wrinkles. This can be easily achieved provided you choose the best anti-wrinkle face moisturizer with the above proven special ingredients.

Hope that helps a little:)
Also here is a good site- if you scroll down to the bottom they have charts of different food groups with the amount of protein in each food listed.

It is a known fact. Alcoholism can kill. It is a form of addiction that destroys relationships and families. It is a condition that hinders the alcoholic’s capabilities to concentrate and perform adequately at work.

The good thing though is that alcoholism can be treated. With a good support group and a comprehensive detoxification process alcoholics can recover from the slump, return to their lives and once more, become productive members of society.

Alcohol detoxification is a necessary process that alcoholics should go through in order to successfully overcome alcoholism. Several medical facilities offer comprehensive rehabilitation care integrating an alcohol detox diet constantly monitored by medical professionals. Experts agree that the sudden withdrawal of alcoholic substance from a body that has been severely used to it can cause a variety of reactions, some of which could be fatal. It can cause extreme levels of depression and anxiety, attention deficit and irritability. In severe cases, the alcoholic may experience convulsions and constantly feel nauseous.

Just the same, many individuals may find weeks of confinement in a facility extremely uncomfortable or even expensive. This should not stop the alcoholic from getting over the addiction as the recovery process can be done successfully at home. The keys to successful home-based alcohol detoxification? Constant support, diet and discipline.

Surround yourself with family and friends determined to see you surpass alcoholism. Allow them to monitor your behavior and solicit their support to help you stay away from places and occasions where you may be tempted to drink. Let friends assist you as you clean your cupboards and basement of alcohol. Give them the permission to occasionally inspect possible hiding places of alcoholic drinks.

A good support group may also be found in associations like Alcoholics Anonymous. It is also recommended that you join groups that engage in relaxing activities like meditation and yoga. Involve yourself in creative and productive endeavors, learn to paint, play a musical instrument or join a pottery class. These will help in your gradual reintegration into the non-alcoholic society.

In extreme cases, it is also recommended that you consult with a psychiatrist especially in cases when the recovering alcoholic begins to experience episodes of depression and anxiety. Make sure that you get enough sleep and exercise and that you follow a healthy lifestyle.

Choose what you eat and limit your diet to food that will help your body cope with the withdrawal symptoms of alcoholism. Included in the alcohol detox diet and meal plan are fruits rich in antioxidants, vitamins and positive carbohydrates such as apples, avocados, bananas, grapes, mangoes, oranges, pears, cherries and strawberries. Get enough fiber into your diet with organic wheat, rice and oats. Best protein sources for the alcohol detox diet are lean meat, poultry eggs and beans. Dark chocolate and green tea is also known to have high levels of antioxidants and are good additions to the alcohol detox diet.

More importantly, in following a strictly healthy lifestyle and diet, have discipline. Have the initiative to stay away from crowds and places that you used to frequent as an alcoholic. Park as far away as you can from the bar or the liquor store.

Lastly, reward yourself with a vacation that will allow you to relax, reflect and experience life as a sober individual.

How to eat the fruits Avocado?

I tried just now, it was a little bit bitter, mushy but tasteless. Have to add a bit of sugar as advised by my friends. Is it the correct way to eat an avocado?

THank you

First, there is no other avocado to eat than a Haas. Those huge avocados that look so good and seem to be bargains taste watery and nasty. I find that I do not like avocado that has gone too mushy. It should be firm, but with no hardness to it. When it is the right firm ripeness, it has a delicious nutty flavor to it. If it’s mushy this flavor disappears.

Here’s a simple way to eat avocado…
cut it in half from north to south, running the knife all the way around and to the pit. Do not cut the pit itself. Grab a half in each hand and twist in opposite directions to separate the halves. The pit will remain in one of the halves. If you just want a little avocado, choose the half that doesn’t have the pit and stick the other one in the fridge. I leave it uncovered and just slice of the darkened “skin” that forms. Using a soup spoon or larger insert it between the skin and the fruit and work the fruit out, keeping it whole as possible. Place the avocado flat side down on a cutting board and slice in 1/8″ slices. With the palm of your hand press-push the slices over to one side so they are splayed kind of like a deck of cards. Sqeeze 1/8 of Persian or 1/2 or Key lime over the avocado. Grind some fresh pepper on it. Salt. Ready to eat straight by itself, on a salad, with eggs. Will work as a side to countless dishes. It’s hard to believe something so simple can be so good. But it is.

sweet potato filings, toppings?whats nice with a baked sweet potato?

i love normal whit epotatos baked and with tuna or cheese in but i cant think what would go with a sweet potato where its such a different taste? i thought maybe some avocado sliced up on top of it, or guacomale, any ideas??

my dad made them with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and pralines (pecans made candy-ish and caramely with sugar in the oven) on top. it was pretty awesome. it’s also good with mini marshmallows when they get browned and caramelized.

the issue I foresee with avocado is that its texture is too close to that of the sweet potato, kind of mushy. I’m not sure how well the flavors would meld in that instance. It would still be really interesting to try, though!

Many dog owners don’t consider that harmless little house and garden plants may be a potential source of danger to your dog or puppy. Usually poisonous plants are more deadly to small puppies, but some plants, even in small amounts, can be toxic to dogs of any size. By taking the time to understand the various plants and their levels of toxicity for dogs you can avoid costly vet bills and even more serious conditions.

Depending on the type of plant either the leaves, stems, bark, roots or fruit can be toxic. Some plants are only toxic at various times in their growth stage whereas others are always poisonous. For information on each type of plant the internet, your vet, or even a plant and gardening book is great resource.

Garden Plants

Believe it or not some of the most common garden plants are also the most deadly. Tomato plants, both the leaves and the stems, can be toxic to dogs. St. John’s Wort, an herbal plant, is very toxic leading to vomiting and seizures. Other garden plants that can be problematic include:

· Apricot
· Avocado
· Black Cherry
· Black Walnuts
· Castor Beans
· Catnip
· Chokecherry
· Eggplant
· Garlic
· Mushrooms
· Mustard plants/greens
· Onion
· Peach
· Plum
· Potato
· Pokeweed
· Spinach

Fencing the garden area or monitoring if the dog is actually eating the plants within the garden is important. When in doubt completely isolating the garden from the area the dog is kept is a great idea.

Ornamental Outdoor Plants

Everyone loves to have their yard area looking great, but not at the expense of his or her animals becoming ill. Some of the showiest of the flowering plants are also the most deadly, including Oleander and many of the flowering shrubs. The list of the most common flowering and ornamental plants that are frequently found in gardens are:

· Amaryllis
· Baby’s Breath
· Bird of Paradise
· Black Eyed Susan
· Bleeding Heart
· Bluebonnet
· Boston Ivy
· Calla Lilly
· Chrysanthemums
· Cyclamen
· Daffodil
· Daisy
· Elephant Ear
· Easter Lilly
· Ferns
· Flamingo plant
· Geranium
· Honeysuckle
· Hyacinth
· Hydrangea
· Ivy
· Jade plant
· Lantana
· Larkspur
· Marigolds
· Morning Glory
· Peony
· Primrose
· Rhododendron
· Tiger Lily
· Yucca

There are many other beautiful garden flower that can also be deadly, so be sure to check with the nursery or garden shop before planting them in the same area that you are planning on keeping your dog.

Indoor Plants

Many of the houseplants including ferns, dieffenbachia, pothos, ivy, philodendron, and even poinsettias are very toxic to dogs. Corn plant, peace lilies and any of the ornamental tobacco plants can be very dangerous for both full-grown dogs and puppies.

If you think that your dog may have consumed a poisonous or potentially poisonous plant immediately get them to the vet. Bring a small amount of the plant with you, including the leaf and the flower, to help with identification.

Growing an avocado plant from seed. HELP!!!?

I have been growing my little avo seed for two months now, it is in water with three matchsticks to hold it up. It is on the window sill and gets warmth there but no direct sunlight….Anyhow, it has a nice root system developing, and it IS growing, but only downwards. I have not seen any stem of leaves yet and it has been two months, and I am wondering whether it is dying???? (Even though I am seeing growth in the roots?) Can you help? Any advice?

If you see root growth, your seedling is healthy.

Avacados take 7-10 years to produce AND you need both male and female trees for pollination.

If things are a little lame in the bedroom see what nature’s tonic of love can do for you. Put the pills aside and see how food can get you in the mood.

Prior to medical professors introducing the world to love potions in their present day successful endeavour’s to produce a antihypertensive drug, nature provided the means to enhance and increase sexual appetite.

In less modern times, cultures would experiment with food in search for new and powerful aphrodisiac’s in their quest for the same outcome modern day love potions provide.

In ancient Roman times the common carrot was said to expel the sexual suppressions of female prisoners when carrots were cooked in stock. Tomatoes were claimed as a powerful love potion which resembled a human heart according to Italian doctors.

The start of the new fig harvest in Ancient Greece initiated a tradition of sexual activity among husband and wife with the fig being related to love and reproduction. A blooming fig was compared to that of the female sex organ.

The testicle tree, known in modern times as an avocado, was how the Aztecs referred to an avocado tree based on the dangling pairs of fruit.

There are several theories as to why food can have an affect on our sexual behaviour and libido ranging from its contour and smell or whether the chemicals and vitamins in certain foods are the main determining factor that gets us in the mood. What ever its reason, this approach can be nothing other than a win-win plan of attack – great food and great sex, what more could we ask for!

Most of us would know that zinc is crucial for the output of testosterone in males and bears importance also for females to prevent friction during sex. Right throughout ancient and civilized times, foods that contain zinc such as caviar and oysters have been consumed to improve sexual performance. Oysters have the ability to swap their (male or female) sex to the opposite gender which has raised the theory that oysters can give us sexual stimulation from both a male and female perspective so be sure and add oysters to your shopping list!

Probably the universal all time favourite food, chocolate, comprises of a natural drug known as phenylethylamine which is also produced by our brain and gives us that exhilarating feeling of being in love. Cheese has a much higher content of phenylethylamine and is believed to have up to 10 times the affect of chocolate.

To develop sex hormones, B vitamins are a contributing requirement and is also a vital component to repel depressive disorders, anxiousness or drowsiness. With tiredness possibly being the biggest excuse not to have sex, obtain some advice on including B vitamins as part of your routine.

Online dating consultant and relationships guru, Francis Galloway, reckons capsaicin has the ingredients to spice things up – literally! Capsaicin is the high temperature producing chemical in chili peppers and is said to discharge endorphins and elevate our pulse.

With so much food to get you in the mood, what an ideal way to flirt with your date. Meeting new singles and forming new successful relationships is all part of what makes up our destiny. We love to be with interesting people who offer stimulating conversation, so next time you ask someone on a date tell them what food will get them in the mood, it’s a good way to see if you’re both on the same wave length without being too direct.

There are many benefits to use avocado butter, not the least of them that it makes your skin look alive, vibrant and full of health. Add to that the fact that it is completely natural, and it becomes a very attractive choice as an addition to your range of preferred skin care products.

Let’s face the facts… using a day cream is great but it’s not enough on its own to rejuvenate and revitalize your facial tissues. A rejuvenating night cream uses extra special ingredients over and above a lighter day cream, which can make a big difference to skin rejuvenation results.

Most top-quality skin cream uses a couple of good base ingredients throughout their range to cover moisturizing and anti-aging issues. But, a night cream goes further by using special restorative emollients, antioxidants and natural oils that work in synergy to give a greater anti-aging effect.

The best night cream will include these 5 natural ingredients:

Shea butter an emollients and natural moisturizer, which softens and soothes inflamed skin. It also helps to smooth out wrinkles, reduce scars, blemishes and brown spots. It is rapidly absorbed into the skin, and is very similar to the moisturizers produced by your sebaceous glands.

Babassu wax is a natural substance used in creams to sooth and softens facial tissues. It creates an invisible barrier to keep out dirt and retain moisture, its also suitable and beneficial for both oily and dry complexions.

Active manuka honey is used to help rejuvenate and restore your skin tissues while you sleep. It stimulates the immune system and has special enzymes that have antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Scientists have determined that when used topically manuka honey supports the skins own cell renewal process.

Avocado oil is very compatible with your own skins oils and is known to be deeply hydrating. It’s scientifically and clinically proven to stimulate collagen re-growth levels in the dermis, this helps make your complexion look smoother and younger.

Phytessence Wakame is another excellent ingredient included in the best night cream. It helps to attack and inhibit the harmful enzyme (hyaluronidase), which causes hyaluronic acid to be broken down in your facial tissue. Collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid are essential in maintaining your skins elasticity and smoothness.

Using a top quality night cream containing these additional ingredients, can give your face the extra moisturizing and nourishing boost it needs over and above using only an active day cream.

Make no mistake about it — you need to use more than just a day cream only. By using a top quality night cream with these great ingredients that can penetrate deep into your pores to rejuvenate them for eight hours every night, can give your skin the extra hydration and moisture it needs to keep it smooth, soft and younger looking.

How much food do I need for a taco party?

I’m having a taco party with:
-tortillas
-salsa (homemade)
-ground meat with Mexican spices
-shredded cheese
-sour cream
-guacamole (homemade – so how many avocados?)
-jalapeƱos
-lettuce
-margaritas

Thirteen people will be able to pick and choose between them to make their own tacos. Could anyone tell me how much of each I should buy?

I had a similar party two weeks ago, except instead of tacos, it was build-your-own-burritos (about 15 people came). I bought 3 packages of 10 count soft (medium) tortillas. I made three homemade salsas from fresh ingredients, one a mango jalepeno salsa, the other a basic pico de gallo (tomatoes, cilantro, red onion, jalepeno, lime, salt) and the last one a roasted corn and black bean salsa.
I had to 2-16ounce packages of shredded cheese, one a mexican blend, the other pepper jack. One 16oz tub of sour cream. One headed of lettuce shredded. I used 8 California avocados for the guacamole. I also had made a 1 lb ground beef filling, a 1 and half pound chipotle marinated pork tenderloin (sliced very thin), and one flank or skirt steak.

I also had a variety of corn tortilla chips out for dipping in the salsas and a lime/cilantro white rice for the burritos. I agree with the guy above me, when people ask what to bring tell them to bring tequila and margarita mix. Good luck with the taco party!

Avocado and avocado oil offers so many benefits when used in your skin products. Did you know that avocado contains vitamins A, B1, B2 and D, lecithin, potassium as well as vitamin E. In addition to the vitamins it contains proteins and more than 20% essential fatty acids (amino acids). It is a sought after skin care ingredient because it has so much to offer.

Avocados are used in anti-aging products because of its nourishing and hydrating abilities. The Department of Food Engineering and Biotechnology, Technion Israel Institute of Technology in 1991 found that avocado oil significantly increases collagen in the skin which is why it is commonly found in antiaging products. Furthermore because of its deep penetration into the skin it is a perfect ingredient to combat dry skin. For those that suffer with eczema or psoriasis avocado offers healing properties that will relive dryness. Both avocado and avocado oil is gentle and well tolerated by those with sensitive skin.

In addition to its moisturizing and healing properties, it is also high in sterolins, AKA plant steroids, which are reported to diminish age spots and heal scars.

Below are a few avocado skin care recipes:

Facial Mask for Dry Skin
1/2 avocado
1 teaspoon almond oil (Note if allergic to nuts use different oil such as jojoba oil or olive oil). Even a vegetable oil in your cupboard will do.)
Mash avocado and then add almond oil or oil of your choice. Apply to face, avoiding the eye area, and let set for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water then cool water. Follow with toner and moisturizer.

Avocado Honey Face Mask – for dry skin
2 tablespoons of avocado
2 tablespoons honey
1 egg yolk
Mash the avocado, add the honey and egg. Mix until thoroughly blended. Apply to face avoiding the eye area. Let set 10 minutes then rise with warm water then cool water. Follow with toner and moisturizer.

Avocado Mask for Oily Skin
1 avocado, mash
1 egg white
1 tsp. lemon juice
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until you get a mixture. Apply to a clean face with fingertips on the oiliest part of the face (T-zone). Let dry for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water then cool water, follow with toner and moisturizer.

Avocado’s can be hard to find and/or a little pricey if living in a northern climate, so here are some recipes that use avocado oil instead.

Dry Skin Cleansing Cream
1/2 oz. Beeswax
1 oz. Lanolin
2 oz. Almond Oil
1 oz. Avocado Oil
1 oz. Grapeseed Oil
2 drops Clary-Sage Essential Oil
2 drops Lemon Essential Oil
3 oz. Spring Water
Using a double boiler, melt beeswax, lanolin, and oils. Stir well. When melted, take off heat and add essential oils, then water. Wisk until cool.

There are many benefits to use avocado butter, not the least of them that it makes your skin look alive, vibrant and full of health. Add to that the fact that it is completely natural, and it becomes a very attractive choice as an addition to your range of preferred skin care products.
