Dietary experts recommend that every person should eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. The importance of fruits and vegetables to a healthy diet has been known for quite some time, but studies have shown that very few people eat the amount of fruits and vegetables recommended for a healthy diet.

That’s a shame, since eating a sufficient number of fruits and vegetables just may be the single most effective thing you can do to improve your overall health. The five a day approach to healthy eating may be the single most important strategy you can adopt for a healthier lifestyle.

The many health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables have been established for quite some time now. Study after study has shown that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables lowers the risk of certain cancers, heart disease and other chronic diseases and conditions. Some studies have suggested that as many as 35% of cancer deaths can be attributed to diet, and that diets high in fats and low in fruits and vegetables contributes to unnecessary cancer deaths.

Fruits and vegetables have a lot of advantages besides just their nutritional importance. For one thing, they taste great and add a great deal of variety to everyday meals. Fruits and vegetables come in such a wide variety of colors, textures and flavors that they can be used in virtually every meal. Those seeking to maximize their consumption of fruits and vegetables should get into the habit of using fruits in salads, as toppings and as garnishes.

In addition to their great taste, fruits and vegetables are packed full of many essential vitamins and minerals, including many micronutrients that are not included in packaged vitamin supplements. For instance, foods like butternut squash, pumpkins, carrots, mangoes, peaches, pawpaws and green leafy vegetables are rich in beta carotene. Beta carotene is vital for healthy skin and eyes.

In addition, most varieties of fruits and vegetables contain vitamin C, another important vitamin and a strong antioxidant. Good sources of vitamin C include Brussels sprouts, citrus fruits, strawberries, broccoli, nectarines and kiwi fruit. Many fruits and vegetables, including spinach, broccoli and avocadoes, are also good sources of vitamin E, another excellent antioxidant.

Men and women alike should always strive to eat a healthy diet, but women have an extra incentive to get all the nutrition they need. Proper nutrition is essential to a healthy pregnancy, and some of the baby’s biggest nutritional needs happen before the pregnancy is discovered. Folic acid is perhaps the best known essential nutrient for pregnant women. Folic acid has been proven effective at preventing a variety of birth defects, including Spina Bifida. Good dietary sources of folic acid include Brussels sprouts, broccoli, spinach and oranges. In addition, due to its importance to women of child bearing years, many common foods such as cereals and breads, are supplemented with folic acid.

In addition to their importance as source of vitamins and minerals, fruits and vegetables also provide essential dietary fiber. Adequate fiber in the diet is important in preventing heart disease and some kinds of cancer.

Another great feature of fruits and vegetables, especially to those watching their weight, is the high nutrition, low fat, low calorie nature of these foods. Fruits and vegetables contain very low levels of fats, and a diet low in fat can be quite effective for long term weight loss. In addition, fruits and vegetables contain no cholesterol, and they are lower in calories than many other types of foods.

With all these things going for them, it is no wonder so many dietary experts recommend eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Not only are fruits and vegetables delicious and nutritious, but they can be quite inexpensive as well. Buying fruits and vegetables that are locally grown, and that are in season, is usually the most cost effective way to get the freshest fruits and veggies at the lowest possible cost.

This buying strategy also helps to ensure a steady stream of new fruits and vegetables every month, as some go out of season while others are just coming in. Trying a variety of different fruits and vegetables, including some you may not be familiar with, is also a great way to create exciting new dishes and prevent yourself from becoming bored with the same old diet. Whether your goal is to lose weight or just increase your level of fitness, it is hard to go wrong with a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.

Fats are an essential part of any well-balanced diet, including a vegetarian diet. Fats are made of smaller units – called fatty acids. These fatty acids may be saturated, monounsaturated or polyunsaturated. Saturated and monounsaturated fats are not necessary in a vegetarian diet as they can be made in the human body. However, two polyunsaturated fatty acids – linoleic acid (omega 6) and linolenic acid (omega 3) – cannot be manufactured by the body and must be provided in the diet.

Fortunately, they are widely available in vegetarian/vegan plant foods. Evidence is increasing that omega 6 (found in foods like vegetable oils such as corn, safflower and sesame) and especially omega 3 (found in flax, walnuts, avocados, almonds and olive and canola oil) fats are beneficial for a range of conditions, including heart disease, cancer, immune system deficiencies and arthritis.

Healthy fats and oils play active roles in every stage of the body’s healing, building, and maintenance processes. In fact, they are as important to an active individual’s body as amino acids, minerals, and vitamins. Healthy fats and oils help convert light and sound into electrical nerve impulses, remove potentially toxic substances from sensitive tissue, and provide strength to cell membranes.

The following vegetarian menu sample shows how easy it is for essential fatty acids to be a part of your every day vegetarian diet.

Breakfast:

1 bagel with 2 tsp vegan margarine, 1 medium orange, 1 cup Cheerios cereal, and 1 cup soymilk

Lunch:

Sandwich of hummus made with 3/4 cup chickpeas and 2 teaspoons tahini (a sandwich spread made from ground sesame seeds) on 2 slices of whole wheat bread with 3 slices of tomato and 1/2 sliced avocado Dinner:

1 cup of cooked pasta with 1/4 cup marinara sauce, 1/3 cup carrot sticks, 1 cup cooked broccoli (frozen or fresh), and 1 whole wheat roll

Snack:

1/2 cup almonds, and 1 cup soymilk

I don’t know if it’s something in my mind or my hormones but some foods just get me hot and the chance for great lovemaking goes way up after my man has arranged for us to eat in style. I especially get turned on when my partner has gone out of his way to prepare an aphrodisiac dinner.

It isn’t just the lovers’ food themselves of course but the smell and the way it is presented on the plate can really raise my mood and start my mind going into sexual overdrive. Setting the mood is one of the biggest factors and a guy who can plan this out and then carry on in that “nonchalant way” really has me before I even take the first bite.

Aphrodisiac Menu Tips

Set the Right Romantic Mood
Setting the mood can include any or all of the following accoutrements such as candles, the best silverware, crystal, and maybe even some flowers or a special beverage with a pleasing display on the bottle. His outfit as he sits down next to me at a nicely set table has a way of arousing me beyond words and the images tend to flash in my mind again and again after we have moved into the bedroom.

Of course, a good bottle of wine plays a role. Did you know that research published in a 1994 issue of British scientific journal, Nature, claimed that alcohol can boost the levels of libido in women?!? So choose your bottle of wine wisely!

The colors at the table setting are also very important so think “red, pink and white” as well as the classy “black and white” formal setting with the lights dimmed down low. Once the mood is set, I seem to settle into the idea of sex in only a few short minutes and the guy doesn’t really need to say anything else for the rest of the night!

Food Foreplay
If your woman tends to be a bit more reserved, you can move into something a little more serious with Oysters Rockefeller. Fresh Washington oysters are a great aphrodisiac and you can really go all out by topping them with a creamy mix of spinach, smoked bacon and fennel followed by a touch of anise to make an amazing impression on her. This is something that gets anyone’s heart racing because oysters tend to have a mind altering affect on both men and women.

Another sure fire hit for the ladies is drunken lobster salad. This requires a bit more preparation but it mainly consists of some sweet poached lobster tossed with spinach greens, fresh avocado and maybe even some luscious grapes. I love to taste those luscious grapes in my mouth as I fantasize about having him carry me into the bedroom and devouring me for his dessert.

Chocolates are a MUST!
If nothing else seems to disarm your sweetheart, chocolate has got to be one of the most powerful aphrodisiacs and is the one thing that always gets me swooning into his arms. Even the nerdish scientist knows that chocolate can elevate a girl’s mood and start her thinking all kinds of dirty thoughts about her man. Use your brains fellows!

Some beautiful chocolate hearts or a box of chocolates decorated in a beautiful presentation can bring any girl to her knees and all you have to do is smile after that and the rest is going to be destiny.

Just remember everything I have told you and you shouldn’t ever go wrong with a romantic aphrodisiac dinner with your lover again. Next time you want to put her in the mood for some bedroom action, you’ll have a sure fire plan for success because you will have set the mood well ahead of time. Then you will see how true it is that a man of very little words can truly stimulate a girl long before he even lays a hand on her.

A little bit of pre-planning and arranging for things to look nice will take all the pressure off worrying what she thinks of your aphrodisiac dinner. Instead, it will be everything you don’t have to say and the preparation and your attention to detail will have already done all the talking for you.

Be the lover who can let his woman do all the talking as he sits back and confidently allows his aphrodisiac menu to take affect. Then you will be the man who knows how to pamper his sweetheart and listen to her in those quiet, romantic moments when she is ready to please him as well.

If you want to improve your health and vitality levels then one of the best things you can do is adopt an alkaline diet. I’ve got 3 great alkaline diet recipes for you :-)

You should aim for a 70:30 ratio of alkaline to acidic foods.

In my and many other people’s experience, if you try and eat 100% alkaline foods, it is really too difficult to sustain and doesn’t allow for some foods that should be enjoyed sparingly, like fruit.

It is better to go for 70:30 than ‘fall off the wagon’ completely, trying to achieve a 100% alkaline diet.

Here are 3 easy, quick and tasty alkaline diet recipes: The first is a lovely tasty curry. Herbs and spices are very alkalizing so use these freely in all your food preparation and cooking. The second recipe is a slightly sweet avocado salad. Avocadoes are absolutely wonderful foods – full of Omega 3 essential oils and one for the only alkaline fruits, a real super food. The third recipe is a good old classic salad. You really can’t go wrong with eating a big salad every day – dark green leafy vegetables are amazingly alkalizing so knock yourself out :-) Enjoy!

1 – Chickpea and Spinach Curry Number of Servings: 6 Preparation time: 10 minutes

Ingredients: 1 cup coarsely chopped onion 1-1/2 Tbsp fresh ginger, chopped or grated 1 tsp olive oil or virgin coconut oil 1-1/2 tsp red curry powder 1 19 oz can chickpeas, rinsed and drained 1 14 oz can diced tomatoes with liquid 1 10 oz bag spinach 1/2 cup water 1/4 tsp salt (optional)

Directions: Put the ginger and onion in a food blender/mixer until it is minced. Heat oil gently in large skillet over medium high heat. Add onion mixture and curry. Sauté 3 minutes. Add chickpeas and tomatoes; simmer for 2 minutes. Stir in spinach, water and salt. Cook another minute or until spinach wilts.

2 – Avocado Fruit Salad Number of serving: 8 Preparation time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

1/2 ripe avocado, seeded and peeled (1/2 sliced into 8 portions, 1/2″ cubed) 1-1/2 Tbsp olive oil 2 Tbsp raspberry vinegar 1 tsp grated lime peel 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice 1 Tbsp fresh chopped basil leaves 1/2 tsp dry mustard 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper 1 10 oz package mixed baby greens 4 kiwi, peeled and sliced in half rounds 4 grapefruit 2 cups sliced strawberries 2 star fruits, sliced

Directions: Salad Dressing – In a small bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients, set aside. Salad – In a large salad bowl, combine baby greens, kiwi, grapefruit, strawberries and star fruit. Pour on dressing and toss to coat. Top with avocado slices.

3 – Very Veggie Salad Number of Servings: 4 Preparation time: 15 minutes

Using organic food remedies for beauty and health is definitely not a new concept. In fact, people have been relying on such before the coming of the Industrial Age.

Modernization may have brought us a lot of convenience, but there are now growing populations of people who are seeking to go back to their “organic roots” in the quest to find the perfect anti aging products.

Organic foods are quite beneficial on their own. These have undergone the least amount of processing and preservation. The “raw” materials and the products used to sustain them are all derived from nature.

This means that there are no synthetic chemicals, fertilizers or genetically modified enhancements to worry about.

So how exactly do you use organic foods as anti aging remedies? Here’s how:

1. Try to find the viable fruits that have the highest amounts of Vitamin C or Vitamin E components that can help in anti-oxidation. And try to utilize these in more ways than one.

A wonderful example for this would be the innocuous avocado. Aside from containing high levels of Vitamin B, biotin and folic acid, one small avocado fruit contains about 58 grams of mono-saturated fats, 3 mg. of Vitamin E and 32 mg. of Vitamin C. It also contains 25 mg. of calcium.

All these are necessary in cell regeneration which can help speed up the rehabilitation of dry and damaged skin. The mono-saturated fats help promote skin elasticity, making it look more youthful in appearance.

You can incorporate a small amount of avocado with your meals: taking it as it, as a health drink or part of a dish. You can also create an avocado mask made of pureed avocado mixed with a dash of lime or a spoonful of honey.

This also works well with rolled oats. Other examples of such organic fruits that are rich in Vitamin C and E are: kiwifruit, mangoes, papayas, raspberries, strawberries, etc.

2. Try to favor more organic vegetables and fruits; and cook them with organic seasoning – at the least amount of cooking time as possible. There are three elements here:

One: you could incorporate these organic vegetables into your daily meal plans: blueberries, Brazil nuts, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, citrus fruits, cranberries, green tea, kale, prune, raisin, spinach and tomato.

These are the ones that have the best sources of Vitamin C and E which you could take as much as you want. Organic foods like almonds, olive oil, sesame oil and red wine also contain these essential vitamins, but should be taken in moderation.

Two: instead of favoring the already bottled marinades and sauces, you could try making your own using organic fruits, vegetable and seasoning (like sea salt, freshly grated pepper, freshly chopped tomatoes, etc.) You can gain the most benefit from going organic big time, as opposed to simply using one or two organic products.

Lastly: the cooking process can destroy many essential nutrients including the very fragile Vitamin C. So if you are indeed whipping up a dish, try to choose the ones that have the least amount of cooking time.

Grilling is always a great option especially for fish steaks – a dash of organic lime just before serving will add more levels of Vitamin C to your meal. If the dish needs a longer cooking time, you may want to reserve fresh, uncooked vegetables and fruits as a side salad to counter the loss of vitamins in the cooking process.

Note for those not familiar with the pH scale

The pH scale measures whether or not a substance is an acidic or alkaline: An acid has a pH of less than 7. The lower the pH the stronger the acid. pH 7 is neutral. An alkaline has a pH of more than 7. The highest pH is 14, which is the strongest alkaline.

You are what you eat?

-This saying is not accurate. It’s not really true either. However, what is accurate and true is ‘You are what you digest and absorb.’

Take, for instance, the example of fruits. They have an acid pH, but after eating and digesting, many types of fruits absorbed into the body then become alkaline. They give an alkaline ash residue.

Any foods that produce an alkaline ash residue when absorbed into the body are called alkaline foods. Foods that give an acid ash residue when absorbed into the body are called acid foods. It is important to distinguish the differences when choosing a healthy diet.

Getting it right…

Ideally, for optimum nutrition a good diet should strike a balance between 80%/20% alkaline/acid foods respectively. Ideally, your pH should be around 7.4.Before I list what foods are available to strike this right ratio in favour of the alkaline diet, it has been well noted that many people are out of balance. The reason being that there has been a rise over the years of not so good, or even downright poor nutrition, such as those containing trans-fats, certain saturated fats, refined sugars, starchy carbohydrates…This has given rise to higher acid foods and a predominantly more acid ash residue in the body. It comes as no surprise to me that the rise in acid foods correlates with the increase of the major life-threatening illnesses, cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes…over the last 60 years or so.

So what are the possible benefits of an alkaline diet?

v Feel more alive and alert

v More able to concentrate better

v Far less prone to mood swings…

v Need less sleep

v Feel more willing to do exercise

v Serves as a strong prevention against disease

v Slows down the ageing process

The Alkaline diet Includes: The vegetables Spinach, asparagus, broccoli, carrots, celery, cucumber, lettuce, courgette, cabbage, greens, swede, squash (summer, butternut, yellow etc), peppers, chilli, tomato, onion, garlic, chickpeas, pinto beans, kidney beans, spring onions, root ginger, and aquatic vegetables such as sea kelp and sea dulse.

Salad Recommendations

Avocado, celery, cucumber, dandelion greens, kale, lettuce, rocket, spinach, walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts…i.e. any nuts accept cashews and peanuts. Seeds of different sorts such as pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, flax or any sprouted seed… and watercress. Some Herbs and Spices…

Basil, parsley, coriander, ginger, garlic and dandelion greens…

thats just one meal -i hope. because you need at least 4 more. to lose weight you have to eat small meals every 2-3hours that way your body gets energy when it needs it and doesnt store any extra in fat reserves.
the salad sounds good except i wouldnt use that dressing – it can add up a lot of calories – i usually like just a lot of spices and balsamic vinegar.

Eat your way to better poker II – Remember these foods to improve your memory

“Are you telling me there is something I can eat to improve my memory?†Yes, we are! And we don’t just mean that eating your Auntie’s chicken noodle soup will bring back memories of summer. By eating certain foods regularly, you will improve your brain’s ability to record new memories and to access them quickly, keeping your brain young and ready to learn.

How does it work?

As the brain ages, it loses the ability to protect itself from daily wear and tear, particularly inflammation (swelling)and oxidation, a process which allows damaging free radicals to attach themselves to cells. In addition to this, brain cells often stop communicating with each other as people age, making it harder for the brain to process thoughts, retain short-term memory and create new cells.

“Old neurons are like old married couples — they don’t talk to each other very much anymore. They just sit in the room with the remote and stare at the TV,†says Dr. James Joseph, director of the Neuroscience Lab at the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston.

While research in the field of aging and nutrition is just beginning, scientists have found that diet may help minimize the brain’s sensitivity to oxidation and inflammation, as well as improve brain cells’ ability to communicate with each other. This means that by eating correctly you may keep your brain younger, more nimble, and better able to remember.

We will now walk you through several chemicals which have been discovered to improve your memory and general brain condition, not to mention your health and looks!

Antioxidants:

We have just read that the brain ages because of oxidation and inflammation, which happen because of the brain’s high demands of oxygen for its daily functioning. Now listen to this: if what you want is to minimize inflammation and oxidation, you could do worse than eating lots of antioxidants. These natural chemicals give plants their bright colors, and are especially effective at – you guessed it! – preventing oxidation.

A study involving 70 beagles showed that dogs which had been fed an antioxidant-rich diet over several years performed better in old age than their fellows who had eaten a standard diet. These old dogs COULD learn new tricks! Now, we are not calling anyone an “old dogâ€, but while we all wish we were Annette Obrestad, most of us have already left our teenage years behind and are heading towards Doyle Brunson and Dewey Tomko at this stage. This is why it is so important to get an edge nutrition-wise over all the middle-aged competition out there in the tables, not to mention all those plucky youngsters! So what should you eat to keep your brain as active and healthy as those beagles?

As we said earlier, antioxidants give plants their bright colors, so any bright-colored vegetable or fruit is a good bet. Since we really want you to start eating better, we have compiled a list to make your shopping easier. For best results, try to eat at least 5 (but preferably 9) portions of these foods daily. Don’t underestimate the power of vegetables – remember that Daniel Negreanu is a vegetarian, who brings home-cooked vegan packed lunches to big tournaments and has the success rate we all wish we had.

The “veg-o-phobes†among you may already be saying “why should I eat all those horrid green things when I can have my cake and take a supplement instead?†We are very sorry, but that just won’t do – most researchers agree that antioxidants present in food are significantly more effective than those from supplements! Think salads are for rabbits? In that case try adding vegetables to your stews, pasta dishes and stir-fries, or blend fruits and yogurt for delicious and nutritious smoothies that will keep you running through those all-night online tourneys!

1/2 ripe avocado, seeded and peeled (1/2 sliced into 8 portions, 1/2″ cubed) 1-1/2 Tbsp olive oil 2 Tbsp raspberry vinegar 1 tsp grated lime peel 1 Tbsp fresh lime juice 1 Tbsp fresh chopped basil leaves 1/2 tsp dry mustard 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper 1 10 oz package mixed baby greens 4 kiwi, peeled and sliced in half rounds 4 grapefruit 2 cups sliced strawberries 2 star fruits, sliced

Directions: Salad Dressing – In a small bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients, set aside. Salad – In a large salad bowl, combine baby greens, kiwi, grapefruit, strawberries and star fruit. Pour on dressing and toss to coat. Top with avocado slices.

Are you overweight and fatigued? Do you feel jittery and irritable but better once you eat? Do you feel sleepy after eating a meal heavy with carbohydrates? Do you suffer from high blood pressure or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?

These are all signs of Insulin Resistance, one of the major underlying causes of excess weight and obesity. It affects up to 65% of the overweight population.

Insulin Resistance vastly reduces the insulin sensitivity of cells, which impairs the processing of glucose through the cell wall for conversion to energy. As a result, glucose remains in your blood stream, causing elevated levels of blood sugar, which are sent to the liver. Once there, the sugar is converted into fat and stored via the blood stream throughout your body. This process can lead to weight gain and obesity

Insulin Resistance has many factors that contribute to its presence in the body. In essence, our environment and lifestyles have evolved too rapidly for our bodies to keep pace. We are still genetically “wired” to thrive on the entrenched habits of our ancestors who consumed different, nutrient-rich foods, a diet low in carbohydrates and also sustained greater levels of movement and exercise.

Some people may also have a genetic predisposition to Insulin Resistance. Others develop Insulin Resistance through unhealthy lifestyles.

Over time, the above factors have damaged the complex ability of your body’s cells to properly utilize insulin to convert glucose to energy. Unhealthy diets cause the pancreas to overproduce insulin that overwhelms the cell thereby reducing its sensitivity to insulin and impairing the vital glucose-to-energy conversion process. If you feel you may be suffering from obesity caused by Insulin Resistance take this self-test.

The good news is that Insulin Resistance is reversible, without drugs. By weaning yourself from “bad” carbohydrates and replacing them with “good” carbohydrates while increasing your consumption of nutrient-dense foods, you can break the cycle and heal your body by changing the way it responds to food on a cellular level.

How did I do? i am a 17 year old female. Is this a good amount for me if i am looking to maintain my weight? (I cannot lose anymore, as i am on the low end of “healthy”) How many calories do you think i ate?
Thank you

your intake of food is good and varied but even the brisk walk would have been good you may think of alternating different exercises on different days so as not to over do it

eg monday – take a brisk walk
tuesday – weight trainging
wednesday- swimming

etc or what you could do either is join a dance class for fun or something else that my interest you ie karate , self defense there are lots out there and not only will you be getting great exercise you will be meeting new people

but everything in moderation there is no point in eating a great varied diet if you are gonna burn your self out exercising

take care and best of luck

hope this has helped !

Following an alkaline diet and eating alkaline foods is one of the very best things you can do for your health. It can prevent disease and illness and keep you looking young and full of vitality, as well as help you to lose weight

Check out this list of 7 wonderful and easy to find alkaline foods that you should include in your diet almost every day:

1. Spinach – In general, all dark green leafy vegetables are alkaline foods. Spinach fall into this category and is highly alkalizing. The chlorophyll contained in the green pigment is pure sunlight energy and highly alkalizing to our bodies. It is most beneficial eaten raw, in salads or even juiced with some other alkaline foods, such as…

2. Avocado – one of the only alkaline fruits, it makes a great smoothie when blended with spinach, cucumber and pineapple (pineapple is not alkaline but we are looking to achieve a 70:30 balance between alkaline and acidic foods, so this is ok ☺). Avocado is also packed full of essential omega oils, for a healthy heart and great skin, hair and nails, as well as maintaining good joint functionality.

3. Celery – With virtually zero calories in it and full of nutrients, you can’t really go wrong with celery. It’s great to eat celery sticks raw with houmous dip, or chop it up in your spinach salads, with some seeds and almonds, or make a cabbage and celery soup if you like. Celery loses its bitter taste when cooked but remember that cooking also destroys some of the vitamins and minerals and makes it less alkaline.

4. Tomatoes – our little round red friends are fantastic alkaline foods and, like avocadoes, one of the only alkaline fruits. Tomatoes contain lycopene, which can help to prevent against heart attacks. However, lycopene it is not well absorbed into the body unless the tomatoes are cooked. Thus, the best sources are concentrated tomato products like tomato paste, ketchup and tomato juice. Also, vine-ripened tomatoes contain more lycopene than ones that are picked before they fully ripen.

Tomatoes are so abundant, tasty and versatile, there’s no excuse for not eating them every day!

5. Broccoli – broccoli contains loads of cancer preventing/fighting anti-oxidants and it is also a good source of folate, iron, fibre, potassium and vitamin K, and has more calcium than a glass of milk (milk is acidic by the way too).

6. Cucumber – like celery, there are virtually no calories in cucumber, just water, nutrients and chlorophyll. Cut up into crudités and dip in houmous, or chop into salads. The most alkalizing part of a cucumber is its dark green skin, so eat all of it.

7. Lemons – many people are surprised to learn that lemons are an alkaline food. A fantastic and cheap way to make alkaline water is to squeeze the juice of a couple of lemons into a large jug of fresh water, or a lemon and a lime and drink.

Did I eat healthy yesterday?

This is what I had yesterday. Tell me, on a scale of a 0 to 100, how healthy was my diet for yesterday.

Morning:
1 serving of oatmeal made with 1 cup skim milk
2 tablespoons of wheat germ on top
2 tablespoons of honey
1 mango

10am Snack: A handful of blueberries

Lunch:
Baby spinach salad with tomatos, mushroom, oinons, and green peppers
One serving of fish with the salad

4PM Snack–A lightly salted avocado

Dinner:
Bechamel Proscitto (a type of Italian ham) lasagna rolls
1 serving of steamed brocoli

Bedtime snack–
1 carrot
1 handful of cauliflower

On a scale of a 0-100, how healthy was this diet?

well your diet was really healthy. i could never do that; i’d probably starve :) but even though i don’t know what the bechamel proscitto lasagna rolls are, they don’t sound that healthy. just remember: breakfast should be the largest, most balanced meal of the day, while dinner should be the lightest. your snacks are awesome :) mangoes could have a lot of sugar, though…
overall, a rating of 85-90. amazing day :)
