do avocados go bad

do avocados go bad
do avocados go bad
Is the fat in coconut milk or avocados as bad as the fat in meat or as good as the fat in Salmon?

Fat information is getting confusing. I know meat fat is the worst except Salmon fat is good. Olive oil is good and palm oil is bad. Cheese fat is bad. I just don’t know how avocado and coconut oil figure into the picture. Are they in the middle? Should I eat these products or avoid them?

avocado, salmon and olive oil fat are good fats.
Meat, cheese, palm oil and coconut milk are bad fats.

Finding out that you have bad breath or halitosis is really one of the most embarrassing things that can happen to you in life. You are no doubt ready to move heaven and earth to find an effective cure or treatment. Assuming that you have checked with both your doctor and dentist to make sure there is no underlying health or tooth decay problems that could be causing your bad breath, my advice is to find a natural bad breath remedy that works for you.

Whilst there are a number of prescription drugs available, many of these have undesirable side-effects so my preference is always use one of natures own cures.

1. Make sure you are drinking enough water. It sounds very simple but in many people, bad breath is caused simply by a lack of moisture in the mouth. By keeping well hydrated this problem can vanish as quickly as it appeared.

2. Change your diet. Bad breath can be caused simply by eating too much meat and too few vegetables. No, you don’t have to go completely vegetarian to cure it but try it just for two or three days and see if there’s a difference. If your breath is noticeably fresher after two days, you may want to consider some longer term diet changes.

3. Oral hygiene. It may sound obvious, but are you brushing and flossing your teeth often enough? Once a day isn’t enough. Aim for brushing three times a day if you can and floss every night before bed.

4. Chew parsley. This is a very old breath freshener but still very effective. Once a day in the morning, chew on a sprig of fresh parsley.

5. Try an avocado. Another of natures cures, this fruit will often have the same effect as parsley. While on the subject, you may want to incorporate more fruit into your diet generally. Even if this doesn’t cure your bad breath overnight, it will give your immune system a great boost.

I know these natural bad breath remedies sound simple but they are often the most effective, so give them a try. You have nothing to lose but your bad breath!

Would you want your child to live a healthier and well nourished life? Children, nowadays, need the most impeccable guidance from the parents to help them live a wellness lifestyle. Now is the time to help our children break the unhealthy eating patterns that lead to heart disease, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, and many other health problems that many are now experiencing.

A great place for parents to start is with nutrition. Your child’s health will benefit tremendously with the incorporation of Super foods to their daily eating regimen.
Super foods are nutrient rich whole foods that are mostly found in your local grocery store or health food store. You may ask, “Why are Superfoods important for a child’s diet?” The answer, your child’s health now and in the future depends on it. Superfoods will give your child what they need for growth, development, adaptability and function.

The top 5 Basic Superfoods for kids to get started with are:

Almonds: Almonds are a great source of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, protein, folic acid and fiber. Almonds also contain the good fats or monounsaturated fats and vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant. This powerful nut neutralizes acidity in the body with its high alkalizing mineral content. Almonds help protect the heart, build bones, and prevent cancer. Almonds can be eaten as they are, made into almond milk, or added to cereal.

Apples: Apples are a great source of both soluble and insoluble fiber. They contain a soluble fiber called pectin which helps to regulate blood sugar, prevent clogging of the arteries, and cleanses the digestive system. Most of the nutrients such as Vitamin C and other antioxidant phytonutrients like Quercetin are found just below the skin. To get the full nutrient value of the apple, the whole apple with skin must be eaten. Slice up some apples for your kids to graze on throughout the day. This will also help them sustain a good level of energy for their busy and playful lives.

Avocado: Avocados are actually a fruit that is high in the good fats and contains essential minerals like potassium, iron, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, and sodium. Avocados also contain essential antioxidant vitamins like vitamin C and E. Other vitamins include Vitamin A and B-complex vitamins. This fruit when added with other fruits and vegetables help with the absorption of fat soluble nutrients. Avocados are great for healthy skin, improved muscles and nerve function, electrolyte balance, energy metabolism and immune booster. Avocados can be made into raw soups, chip dips, shakes, smoothies, and popsicles.

Bee Pollen: Bee Pollen, of all foods, contains all the needed nutrients necessary for life. They contain a great amount of B-complex vitamins such as Vitamin B-12. Bee pollen also contains several amino acids, minerals, vitamins, fatty acids, and enzymes. Add this superfood to smoothies and cereal for a complete nourishing meal. It is recommended that children that are allergic to bees should stay away from this food.

Berries: Berries with its deep and luscious colors tell you immediately that they are a great source of fiber, minerals and antioxidants from phytonutrients and vitamins such as Vitamin C and E. Berries promote healthy aging, improved memory, and prevention of chronic diseases. Berries are easily incorporated into you child’s meals as snacks, in pancakes, in cereal, shakes, smoothies and home made popsicles.

Superfoods are not limited to a few foods, there are many. The rule of thumb is to slowly incorporate a variety of superfoods like fruits and vegetables into your family’s lifestyle. As your child gets older, their taste buds will continually change and improve. The creativity by the parent to find ways to keep these foods in every day meals is hard work at first and, just like any other practices, become easy and effortless. Continue to consistently teach your child the power of healthy choices in what they eat. You will see an impact not only in their health and vitality, but in their mindset. The child learns the mindset of what true nourishment is all about thanks to mommy and daddy.

Other recommendations that are the next step to the basic superfoods mentioned are cacao nibs, coconut, coconut water, gogi berries, green vegetables, and krill oil.

Have you used Milk & Honey Hair Smoothie in your hair? Was there any noticeable difference in hair after use?

Milk & Honey Hair Smoothie – Pre/Post Swim Conditoner (Ideal for dry, damaged coily, curly hair)

Instructions For Use: Section hair into 4 segments. Generously apply evenly to hair, from root to ends concentrating on ends as they are the most prone to damage. Smooth hair into protective style (e.g. braided ponytail, or bun). Enjoy your day at the pool, lake, or ocean!

Something I get asked a lot is how to get rid of acne fast. While there is no clear cut answer to this question there are many things you can do to help start down the right road.

Acne is a frequent thing that most teenagers, and some adults, have to deal with. It’s not nice to look at, makes you feel self conscious all the time, it’s really hard sometimes. I know, I’ve been there myself. The good news is that there are things you can do to help get through it faster.

Acne is caused by the buildup of toxins in the skin, as well as the hormonal imbalance caused by puberty. While there’s nothing we can do to get through puberty faster (though wouldn’t that be nice?), there are many things you can do to remove the toxins. This is the first step on the road to answering the question, “how to get rid of acne fast?”

• Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juices. Both will help remove the unwanted toxins and harmful stuff in your body.
• Avoid oily food. The junk food diet has simply got to go if you want to get rid of your acne.
• Switch to organic if possible. Less chemicals on your food equals less chemicals in your body. Simple as that.
• Add as much fresh fruit and salads to your diet as possible. The most dark leafy greens the better.
• Don’t touch your face. Your hands are covered in bacteria and dirt. Spreading them to your face is going to make your acne worse.
• Wash your face regularly with cool water. Morning and night, as well as anytime you sweat. Avoid strong soaps which will add harmful stuff to your skin.
• Try applying fresh lemon juice to your face nightly. Wait a few minutes and rinse off with cool water.
• Or try an avocado paste by making avocado with just enough water to make a paste. Apply, wait 5-10 minutes, and rinse off with cool water.

So back to the question of how to get rid of acne fast, start with a change to a healthy lifestyle.

The closer a food is to its natural state, the better it is for you.  Most health and fitness professionals recommend you eat fresh fruits and vegetables and stay away from fats, particularly saturated fats should be avoided at all times.  However, the truth is you do not need to avoid dietary fats if you make the healthy natural choices and burn more calories in physical activity than you consume.  Following is a list of some of the healthy fatty foods to enjoy.

Healthy Fats to Enjoy

• Avocados – The fat in avocados is about 60% monounsaturated, 25% saturated, and 15% polyunsaturated.  Avocados are healthy natural food that provides many nutrients, fiber and healthy fats.

• Coconut fat – Coconut fat is a healthy natural saturated fat, this is a surprising fact  to most people. The sources of coconut fat are coconut milk,  coconut oil, and fresh coconut. Coconut oil is excellent for cooking, baking and stir-frying.  Most health and fitness professionals are convinced that tropical oils are unhealthy.  A big portion of natural food supply on earth is composed of saturated fats, substances for humans to eat.  It is only when we take natural food and put it through different kinds of chemical processing that it becomes unhealthy.

• Non-hydrogenated palm oil is highly saturated and healthy tropical oil.

• Extra virgin olive oil – Olive oil is about 70% monounsaturated, 16% saturated, and 14% polyunsaturated.  Extra virgin olive oil that comes from the first pressing of the olives, has an abundance of antioxidants.  Olive oil is one of the healthiest choices for liquid oils.  Combine a small amount of olive oil with vinegar to make salad dressing, this is much healthier than store bought salad dressings.

• Dark chocolate – The cocoa bean is a concentrated source of antioxidants. The fat portion of the cocoa bean, cocoa butter is a healthy natural fat, composed of about 58% saturated fat, 38% monounsaturated fat, and 4% polyunsaturated fat.  Dark chocolates are about 50% cocoa,  milk chocolates are about 30% cocoa,  the remainder are milk fat, sugar and corn sweeteners.  Get high quality dark chocolate that has cocoa content between 65% – 80%.  A dark chocolate with cocoa content in this range will contain mostly cocoa and little sugar, it has a creamy texture with sweet taste.  Although dark chocolate can be a healthy treat, it is high in calorie, so keeping it to one or two square.

• Fish such as wild salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring and trout.  Most fish or seafood is good sources of natural omega-3 polyunsaturated fats, but the fish listed here are the best sources of omega-3.

• Nuts – walnuts, almonds, peanuts, and cashews are good sources of healthy unprocessed fats, minerals and other nutrients.  Almonds and cashews are great sources of monounsaturated fats, while walnuts are a good source of unprocessed  polyunsaturated fats, including omega-3.  Get raw or roasted nuts, and avoid nuts that are cooked in oil.

• Seeds – sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, flax seeds, etc. All of these seeds are great  sources of natural unprocessed healthy fats.  Studies shown that flax seeds has omega-3 content. Fresh flax seed could be added to salad and yogurt.

• The fat in organically raised animals – This is the area where most people have been misinformed.  Animal fat is good for us if it came from a healthy animal.  Human beings have flourished on animal fats for hundreds of years.  Unfortunately, animal products today come from animals which fattened up with hormones, and fed with unnatural feed.  Choose organically raised meats, eggs, and dairy.

This article has shed some light on the truth about dietary fats and brings about their importance in a healthy diet.  This is simply a guide to show a healthy diet including the healthy saturated fats is important to overall health.

aphrodisiac avocado

aphrodisiac avocado
aphrodisiac avocado
Is Guacamole / Avocados really an Aphrodisiac?

Have an exotic/erotic adventure with guacamole and it will be linked in your mind with that and be an aphrodisiac to you. Avacado’s are very much a health food so maybe.

Other supposed ones: chocolate, truffles(real not chocolate),oysters, ginesing.

This site says yes to avacados: http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/aphrodis_foods.htm

Aphrodisiacs are natural substances contained in food, fruits or plants that are used as stimulants to enhance ones desires. They are commonly believed to enhance sex ability. Both men and women always try out these stimulants especially when they do not get satisfied sexually. Aphrodisiacs come in many different types according to their function in men or women. besides from others boosting libido they also increase energy level in the body and play a big role in creating the mood before two can get intimate.

Natural aphrodisiacs for women

Arginine enhances sexual desire in women and reduces dryness of the reproductive organ of the female, increase the orgasm among other benefits. It is an amino acid found in meat, nuts, eggs, coconut milk and cheese and is believed to be so safe in increasing the amount of growth hormone which is released from the pituitary gland of which it prevents aging.

Chocolate is also a stimulant; it helps to release serotonin which is responsible for expressing the feelings, when one is relaxed or feels and enjoys pleasure. The preferred chocolate is mostly the dark one because it has high levels of cocoa which is very effective. It also has high amounts of magnesium and antioxidants.

Damiana is another natural aphrodisiac for women; it contains alkaloids that stimulate sex organs and also tone the mucous membrane of the reproductive systems. The herb is taken few hours before bed time to enable arousement of the partner.

Since damiana helps to ease the activities in the digestive system, the effectiveness of one reaching the climax and good performance during sex is achieved. It also deals with a number of problems related to women such as, menstrual problems, insufficient flow or delayed menstruation irritability, headache and acne.

There is also a medicinal plant called Fenugreek, which has aromatic seeds that help in increasing the size and shape of some body parts. The plant was commonly used by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans as a staple diet or as medicine for certain ailments.

The plant has estrogenic effects that help in the synthesis of several sex hormones. The plant is also rich in its smell because the fresh breath makes one want to get close to the other partner.

Natural aphrodisiacs for men

Just like women chocolate also acts as a stimulant in men. Contains a host of compounds including anandamide that help trigger the pleasure spots of the brain and the entire body during an orgasm. Chocolate is also rich in amino acids that help the body arouse hence giving one the desire to be with another partner.

Avocado fruit is smooth and is believed to have a sexy consistency. It is a healthy super food, rich in potassium, fibre and oil that help to stimulate the body.

Pepper or chili contain a chemical that induces the release of endorphins to make you on fire. It also hastens the metabolism process and improves blood circulation, which are vital during intimacy.

Honey and nuts are also used as aphrodisiac because they stimulate the body fast. This is because the metabolism rate is fast and helps retain the body temperature.

Natural aphrodisiac herbs are effective but also powerful. Therefore, it is important to strictly adhere to the dosage prescriptions given to you during administration. They can have side effects if wrongly used.

, I must correct the impression that all of Lamu island is touristy with expensive eateries. Infact, Whispers is perhaps one of the few exceptions, most eating places in Lamu island are humble, with truly good food and reasonable prices.

The eating out scene in Lamu island is almost exactly that- eating outdoors.

Nearly all the cafes, restaurants, kiosks and shacks that cater for food have such wide open spaces with views of the sea or the narrow streets that one comes away having experienced the street culture without trying. That is unless you decide not to venture out from the private houses and posh hotels on Shela beach.

Our experience at the restaurants and bars in these places was a waste of time. The rest of Lamu island is so friendly, with genuine people showing great hospitality; in the more stuck up places of Shela, the service is colonially cool at best, with locals being ignored as much as the waiting staff can and the whole experience lacking any fun or warmth.

One of the best things about Lamu is the availability of fresh and cheap juices. It’s a fantastic experience for non- Lamu people because nowhere else in this country can one get juices fresher and cheaper than in Lamu. A pint of fresh juice goes for Shs 50 and a half pint for Shs 30.atshela, It is Shs 20 more expensive, but still worth it. And when I say fresh, I mean fresh. Juices are made as per order and the noise of the electric blenders at the back is evidence to this fact.

The variety is also stunning; besides the orange, mango (only when in season), lime and pineapple, they offer pawpaw, avocado, banana, tamarind, coconut and a host of others. The tamarind is an acquired taste but very refreshing, the avocado is almost a meal and the coconuts like nothing I’ve tasted before- it is not coconut milk, nor it is coconut water (madafu), it’s the juice of the tender coconut flesh. They do tend to add sugar so you must tell then beforehand if you want your juices natural. Lamu being an Islamic town, alcohol is restricted to a select few places; with the abundant availability of such divine natural products, I certainly didn’t miss alcohol.

One of the more popular places is Bush Garden restaurant, along the promenade. They offer a variety of dishes, but the fish kebabs are the best very fresh fish straight from the sea. We didn’t get to try their ginger crab (having had an overdose of crab meat between Malindi and Lamu), but I tried their Chicken Biryani, which was spicy and served with coconut rice on the side rather than together with the meat. Unfortunately, they served slightly burnt pancakes with honey. Pancakes are also a specialty of Lamu. We avoided the Hapa Hapa Restaurant next door after trying their juices, which we found adulterated.

The Stopover Restaurant on Shela serves fantastic grilled prawns and coconut rice, but it takes forever – a sign of the “ pole pole” nature of the area as well as the fact that everything is prepared from scratch. Their pancakes looked deliciously golden brown, although we didn’t get to try them.

Talking trees is a newer establishment set in a cove half way between Lamu town and Shela. It’s within walking distance from either side, provided the tide is not high. A small place, nicely set up with pleasant colors and all seating facing the open sea, it has a set menu every day with dishes like beef curry.

Their coffees are well prepared but their lime cake with passion icing was a bit too frozen. It’s run by almost friendly team and they have evening “beach parties”at least once a week.

It’s a pity that we did not get to try, nor even see any dishes with a Swahili flavor – except for breakfast. Mahamris and Mbaazi being my favorite, we first triad these at the sea Front Cafe….. On the promenade in Lamu Town. A portion good enough for two with traditional tea cost USD 2 each.

My more veteran friend decried this as daylight robbery and the next day we had the same at a local tea room on a street parallel to the promenade for …..0 for two..

All of the places mentioned above are rather basic but with good views, friendly staff, down-to-earth prices and help capture the laid –back, rustic feel of Lamu island.

would this soup recipe work?

im 14 and love to cook. im gonna make a sweet soup made out of the following ingredients and instructions. its my first recipe that im making by myself, lemme know if it would work

3 plaintains
1 sweet potato
2 avocados,
1 lemon
orzo pasta
vanilla extract
milk
water, or maybe chicken stock
2 frothy egg whites

im gonna blend the avacados, the plantains and milk and water or chick stock together in blender to make the base of the soup. then im gonna chop up the sweet potato into chunks and cook them and othe orzo pasta in the so0up and add a little bit of lmeon juice. then, ill beat the egg whites till their frothy and pour them in once everything stops boling so the whites dont seperate and make the soup look lees pretty. then im gonna slice the lemon and put one or two lemon slices floating on the top, as decoration. would this recipe work? would it taste good? also, should i use water or chicken stock as the base?

Definitely skip the chicken stock as a base, if you’re going for a sweet soup. Use a fruit juice, white grape to be the most neutral, or something else to influence the flavor, water will probably dilute the fruit flavors too much to get the consistency you’re targeting.

Cooking the soup is interesting, as most fruit soups are basically “smoothies in a bowl,” for lack of a better term. You’ve got a lot of starch between the plantains and the sweet potato, so it will thicken a great deal when heated. As mentioned above, the avocados will discolor fairly rapidly due to oxidation.

Playing around with your idea, here’s what I’d take a shot at:

Plantains, ripe, pureed in coconut milk. Par boil the sweet potato until almost cooked through, then shock in ice water to stop the cooking process. Unsweetened white grape juice (or water) as a base. Pre-cook the pasta.

Simmer puree and base on low temperature. Cut a coin of ginger, peeled and let simmer in the “stock.” Ginger thickness determined by how much liquid you have, you just want a bit of the ginger sharpness.

Remove ginger, add sweet potato and pasta, simmer until potato is cooked through. A squeeze of lime juice and splash of vanilla extract. Chill in the fridge.

For the egg whites, I’d make small meringues and serve them floating on the soup. A shave of lime zest or a twist of peel to finish. Call it “Alexander’s Sweet Cloud Soup.”

Happy cooking!

Sorting out a diabetic diet program is much simpler with diabetic recipes and is one of the most serious things you need to do if you suffer from diabetes.

One of the best ways to follow a diabetic diet is to eat foodstuffs that are from all of the four basic food groups.

Two complications linked with diabetes are coronary disease and strokes but by sticking to your diabetic diet program you should reduce the risk of having these problems.

Eating healthy involves eating a wide variety of nutrients that address the entire diet spectrum with the help of the diabetic menu containing the food pyramid of vegetables, whole grains, fruits, non-fat dairy products, beans, lean meats, domestic fowl, and fish.

The -carbohydrate diabetic dietary plans are a little different and only certain vegetables are allowed such as kidney beans, carrots and avocados as well as fish, meat, domestic fowl, cheese and eggs. Diabetic recipes should include foodstuffs that are low in saturated fats and cholesterol, such as skinless domestic fowl, fresh fruit, and vegetables as previously mentioned.

Weighing your food when you’re on a diabetic diet is as serious as the nutrients you consume, so that you receive the correct amount of calories.

When buying the food that are needed for a diabetic recipes, it is particularly important to read the tags since most food labels show daily values based on a two thousand calorie diet.

For example, your breakfast on two thousand calorie diabetic diet plan might consist of something like this, a cup of skimmed milk or sugar free yoghurt, a couple of slices of bread, rice cakes or pasta if you choose, an egg prepared your favorite way and a serving of fruit.

However, if a lower one thousand eight hundred calorie per day has been advised for your diabetic diet plan then your diabetic recipes book might propose something like a cup of skimmed milk, a tablespoon of cheese, a couple of slices of bread and a serving of fruit.

In the afternoon a snack might consist of a half cup of tea or coffee with man-made sweeteners a couple of crackers and some more fruit.

Alternatively, to vary your diabetic diet you could always have a cup of skimmed milk or yoghurt to replace the tea or coffee.

Can I mix all of these things for a natural hair treatment?

Im trying to get all the info on what to do with my hair tomorrow,it is my day to do my hair, and I want to put all of these things in the blender because I have seen all of these in other hair treatments: Avocado, mayo, oil, coconutmilk, banana, milk, egg, orange, honey. Is it okay to do all those and just let it soak in for a few hours? is there anything else?

And I always worry about putting honey, egg, and mayo in my hair, because my hair falls easy and plus its sticky and/or smells, but will it be alright?

thank you!

An easy way to do an at home conditioner treatment is to just lather your dry hair with conditioner then put it under a shower cap and wrap your head in a hot towel and leave for about 20mins. Makes your hair all light and fluffy and soft.

I wouldn’t mix all those things together into your hair, not at the same time. You could try just avocado, coconut milk and banana. Milk is used to bleach colour out of hair, I wouldn’t recommend that. Oil won’t help repair your hair at all, honey will make it horrible sticky and will need a lot of shampoo to get it out (which damages hair), and orange is acidic, will weaken hair and make it break.

I’ve heard mayo is good hair, but I wouldn’t mix it with the fruits because it will smell bad and may be best left on its own and I have no idea how egg can be good for hair. (Maybe I’m just ignorant about that)

Try using natural fruits that aren’t acidic because they’ll damage your hair.

Good Luck

Recipes for healthier hair lie right at your fingertips… in your own kitchen!
Healthy skin and hair are just a “whisk” away!   Save yourself time and money at the salon or spa… whip up your own, homemade hair-saving mixtures.  You’ll be glad you did.

Remember, if you are allergic to any of these ingredients, don’t try this at home!

The Best Home Remedies for Rescuing Dry Hair:

Beat up on an Egg: Separate the white of an egg from the yolk, and whip the white thoroughly. Then add 1 tablespoon of water to the yolk and blend until the mixture is creamy. Next, mix the white and yolk together. Wet your hair with warm water, remove the excess moisture, and apply the egg mixture to your scalp with your fingertips. Keep applying the mixture until it is used up.  Massage gently until the froth is worked into your scalp, and then rinse the hair with cool water.  Continue to rinse preferably in the kitchen sink until all of the egg is washed away.

Go for the Mayo: Heat up one half cup of mayonnaise until it becomes an oily, white goo and apply to dry, unwashed hair. Cover your hair with a plastic bag and leave it on for at least 15 minutes. Then, rinse and shampoo thoroughly, preferably in the kitchen sink.

Mix up a Tropical Treat: Mash one over-ripe banana (the blacker, the better) with a mushy, rotten avocado. Massage this exotic puree into your hair and leave on for at least 15 minutes before washing out…in the kitchen sink!

Grab a Cold One: For your HAIR, silly.  Beer can give your dry hair a healthy sheen. Before you blow-dry or style, use a pump bottle to spray your hubby’s favorite brew onto your hair. The beer will leave your hair shiny and sleek and its odor will disappear quickly.

In addition to using these home remedies regularly to avoid dry hair, try the
following preventative measures:

1) Avoid overshampooing. Shampooing can wash away the hair’s protective oils, so try washing less often and use a mild shampoo labeled “for dry or damaged hair.”  Proceed to step 2!

2) Condition regularly. Conditioners protect the hair’s cuticle layer from splitting from the shaft. Pick a conditioner that works well for your hair and use it after every shampoo.  Try one that’s good for “frizz”.

3) Wear a hat. Too much exposure to wind and sun can leave hair thirsty. Cover up when it’s blustery and cold, or hot and dry.

4) Trim off split ends. The biggest problem caused by dry hair is split ends. Schedule a trim every six to eight weeks to keep fraying ends under control.

5) Ease up on the heat. Heat (in the form of blow dryers, as well as straightening and curling irons) can quickly dry out hair. Let your hair air dry occasionally. Try using plastic cylinder rollers to straighten hair by wrapping slightly moist hair under and around rollers for about 10 minutes. For curling, try using sponge rollers overnight or sleeping with moist braids.

6) Don’t swim without a cap. Use a rubber cap to protect your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine. If you must forgo a cap, rub a spoonful of olive oil into your hair before diving in.

7) Deep condition hair after it’s exposed to salty or chlorinated water. This one is a no-brainer!

Take good care of your hair!  You’ll miss it when it’s gone!

Natural Hair Help Please…?

Help ….I just did my Big Chop on the May 1st! I went on a product shopping spree: Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut ( to co wash with), Suave Humectant ( to use as a leave in con.) Lotta body texturizer lotion, africas best herbal oil. I also bought some coconut milk, avocados, mayo and extra virgin olive oil…oh and apple cider vinegar.
( I saw a recipe for a conditioner with these ingredients). I have all this stuff but what should I do first with my hair…im so excited and confused. Help Please!

Congrats on the BC. THe first thing I think you should do before using all these ingredients/products is to clarify your hair so you can get the full benefit of these ingredients. Either shampoo your hair or clarify mixing baking soda with your conditioner to completely strip your hair of any particles/products that might still be in it. The apple cider vinegar is used for clarifying, too, but I don’t know in which capacity, because I don’t do this.

I don’t use any of those things, so I can’t really help you as far as that. I’d do something like clarify, use deep condition, use rinse conditioner (I don’t do this anymore), leave-in. I only oil my hair at night to keep it from becoming completely dry and also it’s easier to get out any tiny knots that I find when I’m playing with my curls.

Combine1 teaspoon baby oil, 1 egg yolk and 1 cup water – Beat the egg yolk until its frothy, add the oil then beat again. Add to the water. Massage into the scalp and throughout your hair. Rinse well.

Lemon juice or vinegar -It removes build up from hair products Best for dirty, oily, or frequently conditioned hair. Pour 1 cup through hair; rinse; then use your regular conditioner. Overuse can strip natural oils, damaging hair. Do not use everyday, or on treated hair. Left on, it will lighten hair in the sun.

Wheat hair conditioners: Take one teaspoon of wheat germ oil.,One cup of water, One teaspoon of lemon juice, Egg yolk of one egg, One tablespoon glycerine, One tablespoon milk. Beat the egg and mix all other ingredients. Massage on the head. Rinse off with lukewarm water which is mixed with lemon juice

Combine the ¼ cup olive oil,¼ cup vegetable oil, ½ cup water, 2 tbsp honey and boil on stove. Immediately remove from heat and allow to cool. Transfer into a spray bottle. Spray on wet hair and wrap hair in towel for 15 minutes. Remove towel and rinse. Store conditioner in a cool place between uses.

Combine mashed avocado with some coconut milk. Comb it through the hair and let sit for 10 -15 minutes, rinse out.

Mix one tablespoon of honey and 2-table spoon of cream. Apply this mixture on face and wash it off after few minutes.

Mix mashed avocado with coconut milk until its smooth and about as thick as shampoo. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse well.

Take 1 large banana and 1 tbsp of honey.Mash the banana with fork and add the honey.Mix the two together.Wet hair with lukewarm water.Apply the banana honey mix all over the hair.Put the shower cap on and cover with towel.Leave on for an hour.Rinse out.

Lavender-treated conditioner for dry hair 1 egg yolk or ½ cup of aloe gel, ½ cup coconut milk,1 cup papaya pulp, 2 drops lavender oil, ½ cup whole milk. Whip all ingredients in a blender till the mixture is thick. After shampooing and rinsing, part your hair into small sections and apply conditioner from hair roots to the ends.

Grate few onions and some cabbage together and leave in a copper utensil overnight. In the morning, add few drops of eau-de cologne to remove the onion smell. Add few drops of herbal oil like Indian gooseberry or Bacopa and then apply. Shampoo after 20 minutes. Your hair will gain a superb gloss and colour. You may follow this routine once a week.

Henna makes your hair glossy, too. The following conditioners use essential oils to perfume, balance and nourish your hair. These homemade conditioners make the perfect complement to your homemade shampoos.

Peel and pit avocado. Mash avocado and slowly add coconut milk until smooth and the consistency of hair conditioner. Work through hair to ends. Rinse after 15 minutes and shampoo.

Just under 1 liter of hot water (about 4 cups), 3/4 cup vinegar, 1/4 sprig of rosemary, for fragrance,1 bag of chamomile apple tea, for fragrance – To make vinegar rinse: place water in container of your choice, put the rest of the ingredients inside, and let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes. That’s it!

Clean and condition your hair as usual. Combine ¼ teaspoon of honey with 4 cups of warm water. Rinse this solution through your hair and style as usual. Great to use before a big date.

Make a thin paste by mixing 6 tbs of rice or wheat barn with the help of hot water. Apply mixture after shampooing the hair. Then, take a damp towel and warm it up in the microwave for 30 seconds. Wrap warmed towel to hair and let it set. Lightly shampoo hair and rinse with water.
