How can I make an avocado salad?

I had a taco salad the other day at a Mexican restaurant, and for the first time, I tried an raw avocado, and it was really good. I bought some avocados and want to incorporate it into my green salad.

avocado. wow. my fav. can be eaten in soooo many simple ways. by it;s self with ANY mix of onions(red white pearl yellow shallots) garlic tomato cilantro parsley salt pepper vin lemon lime any green spinach lettce anything it is such a versatile flavor. sub mayo in sandwhiches for avocado ( or dont sub just add avocado) smash it into your rice for veggie flavored rice. or add to chicken soups before serving. look into using avocados as your serving dish for many things.

There are many benefits to use avocado butter, not the least of them that it makes your skin look alive, vibrant and full of health. Add to that the fact that it is completely natural, and it becomes a very attractive choice as an addition to your range of preferred skin care products.

There are several synthetic alternatives you could choose, each of which claims the same benefits as avocado butter, but have you really considered their benefits and the truth of what they claim?  Do you understand the meaning of that large ingredients list?  Let’s digress for just a short while and discuss the vitamin and supplement industry.

Supplements are available in almost any shape and form:  vitamins, minerals and even complex mixtures known as athletic supplements are marketed as being effective in improving fitness, stamina and just about any other health benefit you can imagine. Yet the experts are still out on the difference between the actual benefits claimed for these and those realized in practice.  They are not necessarily the same, and there are some real biochemical reasons for that.

The reason is synergy.  That word relates to different substances working better together than either could apart. Take the example of a secretary and the guy that delivers her letters by courier.  To outsiders, the secretary is great at getting these letters and invoices delivered on time. However, that is meaningless if the courier is not on duty – it gets delivered a day late.

In the same way, many vitamins and minerals are well known for their beneficial effects, but there is no point in taking a calcium supplement if the couriers – magnesium and vitamins C and D – are missing! They are the substances that actually take the calcium into your bone structure. That is why natural sources are better:  they have the courier and the secretary provided in the one package, just as they should be. That is also why avocado butter is a far superior skin care substance than any synthetic product.

It contains the antioxidant vitamins A, E and D that kill of the free radicals that age your skin. A very scientific and comforting explanation of how it works, unlike that of the synthetic emulsified oils, containing surfactants that can damage your skin, rather than help it, and other even more toxic substances. It contains a natural sunscreen that protects your skin and hair from the damaging effects of the ultraviolet radiation of the sun.

Avocado butter also contains lecithin and unsaturated fatty acids that are beneficial to your skin, and it melts at only 30C – 35C making it very easy to apply tom your skin.
It can be used to moisturize dry skin ad it can also help to reduce the appearance of age spots, sometimes referred to as liver spots, caused by the oxidation of fatty deposits just under your skin.

So, don’t use these potentially toxic artificial labeled products, but try pure avocado oil next time you are looking for a skin care product.  You won’t regret it, and will likely be hooked on it for life: your skin certainly will!

“Chicken soup is synonymous with New York City,” Molly O’Neill wrote in the “New York Cookbook”. “An epicurean archeologist could piece together a social history of the city, simply by studying the permutations of its chicken soup.” From renowned chefs like Jean-Georges Vongerichten to the corner bodega owner, every cook has his own recipe for this magical elixir.

In a two-month chicken soup odyssey, wandering the streets of New York searching for the headiest, tastiest chicken soup, I slurped classic presentations and discovered versions with unique twists and secrets. I have also become — so far this wintry season — walking proof of the soup’s restorative qualities.

Delis dispense golden “Jewish penicillin,” usually filled with some combination of matzo balls, noodles and little meat-filled dumplings called kreplach. This restaurants make at least two kinds of chicken soup using coconut milk, galangal and kaffir lime leaves. Chinese restaurants have their wonton soups, and recently Sichuan restaurants have introduced chicken soups made with prized fresh-killed black-skinned chickens, pickled cabbage, hot chilies and pea shoots. Of course, the Greeks’ contribution to chicken soup is avgolemono. Latino chicken soups feature avocado, cilantro, oregano and tomatoes.

But a call for chicken soup also calls for answers. What color should a proper chicken soup be? When do you add the starch, whether it’s rice or noodles or matzo balls? When do you add vegetables or herbs? If you add beef or pork, is it still chicken soup? Perhaps most important, can you still get a truly great bowl of matzo ball soup in this town now that the Second Avenue Deli is closed? Makes a superb Eastern European-style chicken soup. It is pale gold and flecked with fresh herbs, and delivers tons of actual chicken flavor. He calls it Estelle’s, after his mother, a Russian Jew who he says still makes the best chicken soup around.

Beauty products and remedies for acne or other type of skin products can range from normal lotions and oils to more creative products like mud masks, mayonnaise, or other house hold products. Our mothers and fathers have passed on age old ways to cure a zit or another type of skin imperfection. Do you use toothpaste to dry out your skin or avocadoes to moisturize it? A common house hold products that can be used as a beauty product among many other medical type reasons is witch hazel. It has been used for centuries and it has many uses. Here are different ways you can use witch hazel and the advantages it has for your skin.

Witch hazel was first used by North American Indians and the southern American area because it is made from a plant found in that area. Its early uses were to help stop hemorrhaging or internal bleeding, sprains, eye inflammation, skin inflammation, and tumors. The plant extract has been known for centuries that it is one of the best products to use an astringent.

One of the biggest advantages of witch hazel is that it is organic and is made from the plant extract so it can be used both internally and externally to treat ailments. You can drink it, gargle it in your throat or rinse your mouth with it, and use it as a douching liquid. You can find recipes for teas where you can add witch hazel which will probably make it taste better if you need to drink it for curing an upset stomach. Gargling it will help sore throats heel faster and feel better. Rinsing your mouth with it will act as an organic mouthwash.

Externally, you can use it to treat skin imperfections, cuts, veins, hemorrhoids, insect bites, and bruises. Whatever you need to treat, you just rub the witch hazel on the area. Most witch hazel you find at the drug store is made with alcohol which can dry out your skin or be too irritating. Depending on what you are using the product for you may not need the alcohol in it.

You can buy alcohol free witch hazel that is more effective for treating eczema or really dry skin, toning your skin, or cleaning a cut. The alcohol free is a better choice for kids because the alcohol can really hurt if you are cleaning a cut. If you aren’t treating acne but are using it for a beauty product on your face, I would recommend the alcohol free so that you won’t dry your skin. When treating burns or severely dry skin this is the best choice because most alcohol free witch hazels also have additives, like Aloe Vera or essential oil which help to moisturize. It can be used to tighten pores and tone your skin that will will make your skin have a beautiful glow.

This product should be kept in your home as a common household ingredient. In addition to treating skin imperfections, inflammation, or internal problems, there are other common uses for it. You can use the product to treat razor burn, alleviate pain from a wind or sun burn, taking off make up, and reducing the swelling from a pesky bug bite.

If you’re planning a Hawaii wedding reception, you can do it economically, and still have a gorgeous reception, whether you’re inviting 5 or 150 guests. Having your reception at a restaurant is what I recommend because it can be accomplished so easily.

One of the best places to have a wedding reception in Hawaii has got to be the Hau Tree Lani Restaurant where Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have often relaxed under the beautiful, old banyan tree that now covers the dining room patio like a canopy.

The Hau Tree Lanai is a stunning place to dine at sunset. My wife and I had our reception there, and I can vouch for it’s food, excellent service, and romantic atmosphere. I really enjoyed eating outdoors with a spectacular sunset for a back drop.

The best time to plan your Hawaii wedding reception is at 5:30 p.m. when the kitchen opens and the sun is just starting to light up the sky with orange and pink and purple hues. I recommend having your wedding ceremony around 3:00 p.m. because it’s cooler at that time of the day in Hawaii.

We got married in the summer time, so there was really no danger of getting rained out. For people with parties larger than 15, or who want to get married during the rainy season (November through March), the Hau Tree Lanai also has a special banquet room over looking the beach which will seat up to 150 people—and I’m told you can rent it for only 150 bucks!

A lot people think that planning a reception is difficult and that the cost is astronomical. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The Hau Tree Lanai is a great choice, but there are other economical and beautiful restaurants where you can have your Hawaii wedding reception.

I found the Hau Tree Lanai a few days before the day of our wedding, and the manager was able to accommodate us as there were only 15 people in our party. We were lucky because some couples reserve the Hau Tree Lanai for their wedding reception as much as two months in advance. Of course, the smaller your wedding party, the easier it is for the Hau Tree Lanai or any restaurant to accommodate you.

If you have a very small party you can just order right off the menu. For my Hawaii wedding reception the manager and I worked out a short menu for our guests that the kitchen could handle, but would still give our guests plenty of choices.

For $50 to $75 per person, The Hau Tree Lanai will prepare you and your guests a complete dinner with a set menu including:

– Bread and Butter

– Appetizer or Salad

– Entree (4 or 5 different choices)

– Dessert

– Coffee or Tea

That’s basically what we did. And we served our guests champagne at $30 a bottle. There’s about 5 glasses per bottle of champagne, so I think we went through 4 or 5 bottles. There was enough champagne to go around, as I remember.

We selected the following entrees for our guests to choose from:

– Avocado Crab Stuffed Mahi Mahi

– Chicken Hawaiian Monarch

– Jumbo Scampi Sans Souci

– Mango Marinated Pork Chops

– New York Steak With Butter Sauce

A 17% gratuity is added to your bill. With the champagne, the tax, and the gratuity, I remember my bill came to an even grand ($1,000). That was for 15 people. As you can see, if you’re planning your wedding reception in Hawaii, it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg.

The Hau Tree Lanai is located at the edge of a beautiful white sand beach named Sans Souci Beach. The restaurant is part of The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel, a 20 minute walk from Waikiki Beach. It’s a convenient location for people getting married in a park or on a beach near by.

Our limousine ferried my wife and I and several of our honored guests to the Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant. When we walked into the outdoor beach-front dining room, our long banquet table was prepared with pink table clothes and flowers in vases on the table.

The sun was setting and the waiters began pouring champagne. A great time was enjoyed by all. Our dinner party reception lasted about two and a half hours and that included cutting the wedding cake. The Hau Tree Lanai is very friendly, and truly a romantic and economical place to have your Hawaii wedding reception.

I want to make an avocado based filling for ravioli and wontons. Any suggestions?

My first attempt didn’t work partially because my avocado wasn’t quite ripe enough. I’ve worked that part out, but would like to know what else I should add, and how long the avocado should be cooked for.

cooked avocado doesnt sound good to me. dont precook your filling and it could work. try some scallions and maybe some green chilis w it.
