avocado fruit or vegetable
avocado fruit or vegetable
A substitute in goodness for avocados? Or just a good vegetable/fruit?

I hear avocados are really good for your hair, and skin and such. They have like 20 vitamin minerals in them! But unfortunetly, i can not stomach them. I eat grapefruits a lot, along with carrots, but is there another really good kind of vegetable/fruit that will help with healthy hair and hair growth and maybe the skin? Thank you!

All the medics and food experts say targeted weight loss is unlikely, especially in the waist and belly zones, but I managed it with acai berry. I understand they say that pills will not work, but they sure worked for me, and they have been shown on CBS News too. There's a free trial on currently at http://palecd.masdiseno.com , try it, what's the worst that could happen?

Eating fruits and vegetables is one of the best ways to maintain good health. Fruits and vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet. They contain vitamins, phytochemicals, and minerals that can protect your body from diseases like diabetes, cancers, and heart diseases. Ideally, you should consume five kinds of vegetables and two kinds of fruits each day.

Fruit has a different meaning in different contexts. In botanical terms, fruit refers to a ripened ovary of a flowering plant. In some cases, fruit refers to the ripened ovary with its surrounding tissues.

Fruit, in food preparation, refers to the sweet, fleshy, and edible parts of a plant such as oranges, plums, and apples. Sometimes, the stems of rhubarb could also said to be a fruit in food preparation although, botanically it is not. Sometimes, the nuts and grains of many common vegetables are also included within the broad term of fruit in cooking.

Some fruits, including tomato, cucumber, pumpkin, squash, beans, corn, peas and sweet pepper, are considered vegetables by those involved in food preparation. In the strictest culinary sense, fruit is any sweet tasting plant product associated with seed or seeds. Tomatoes are a fruit.

Broad Classification of Fruits

The three basic types of fruits are:

1) Simple fruit

2) Aggregate fruit

3) Multiple fruit

Simple Fruit

Simple fruits could be formed due to ripening of a simple or compound ovary with only one pistil. They can be either dry or fleshy.

Dry fruits could be dehiscent fruit which open to discharge seeds or indehiscent fruit which do not do so.

Examples of dry simple fruits include legumes (pea, bean and peanut), capsules (Brazil nut), fibrous drupe (coconut and walnut), schizocarp; carrot, utricle (beets), silique as in radish, and others.

Examples of fleshy simple fruits include pome (accessory fruits like apple, pear, rosehip) and berry (redcurrant, gooseberry, tomato and avocado), false berry (banana and cranberry) or stone fruit (plum, cherry, peach, apricot, and olive).

Aggregate Fruit

These fruit develop from a flower with numerous simple pistils. Some aggregate fruits are termed berries, but they may not be in the strictest botanical sense.

A common example of aggregate fruit is raspberry.

Blackberry is another aggregate fruit, but it has an elongated receptacle as a part of the ripe fruit so it is called an aggregate-accessory fruit. Strawberry is also an aggregate-accessory fruit.

These fruit usually develop from a single flower with numerous pistils.

Multiple Fruit

A fruit formed from a cluster of flowers is called a multiple fruit. Each flower produces a fruit but they eventually merge into a single mass.

Common examples of multiple fruit include mulberry, pineapple, orange, edible fig, and breadfruit.

Other dry multiple fruits include sweet gum (a multiple of capsules), tulip tree (a multiple of samaras), sycamore and teasel (multiples of achenes) and magnolia (a multiple of follicles).

The term compound fruit includes:

1. Aggregate fruit where they are present in multiple fruits with seeds from different ovaries of a single flower

2. Multiple fruit where present in fruits of separate flowers packed closely together and

3. Other accessory fruit where the edible part is not generated by the ovary.

There are also a few seedless fruits like grapes, mandarin oranges, and seedless variety of watermelons.

An additional problem was finding things which the children would actually choose when she wasn’t around to supervise.

She discussed this with friends and found her concerns were widely shared, so she decided to put what she found into this book so that other people, especially women with a job and a young family, could benefit from her tips.

You don’t have to buy expensive hair products to achieve a beautiful and healthy hair. Some of the best ingredients for your hair are found in your own kitchen. A lot of the upscale hair products available in hair boutiques are made with natural ingredients such as avocado, olive oil, berries, citrus fruits, and green tea—all available in food sections in supermarkets for a fraction of the price of hair products. Making your own homemade hair products is not only cheap, but healthier and more nutritious than commercially available products made in the lab, which are usually mixed with preservatives and chemicals!  Making your own hair care products will ensure it is made from 100% pure and natural ingredients.

Fruity hair mask

Treat your hair once a week or every two weeks with a luxurious hair mask using strawberry or avocado.  This will keep your hair shiny and revitalized.  Strawberries contain acids that will leave the hair glossy and conditioned. To make a strawberry hair mask, mash eight strawberries and mix in a tablespoon of mayonnaise.   On damp or washed hair, massage the mix in your scalp up to the tips of your hair. Cover your head with a shower cap and a warm towel on top and leave it on for 10 minutes.  Wash your hair thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner.  Avocado fruit is another hair shine solution that you can use. Mash an avocado with a teaspoon of baking powder and a tablespoon of olive oil.   Massage the mixture on your scalp and hair, from roots to tips. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and wash it thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner.

Repairing dry hair

Cry hair can be easily repaired by massaging your scalp and hair from the roots to the tips, with two drops of safflower oil, flaxseed oil, coconut oil or olive oil.  This will replenish your hair’s lost moisture and repair dry and damaged hair.

Remedying oily hair

A quick remedy to oily hair is talcum powder. Apply the talcum powder on the roots of your hair. Hair should be damp and towel-dried before applying. Let the powder sit on your hair for a few minutes before washing it out.

Homemade anti-dandruff solution

To cure or reduce dandruff flakes, pour vinegar on your scalp and massage your scalp gently, taking care not to scratch with your nails. Instead, use the tips of your fingers to loosen the flakes.  Leave your scalp and hair to dry for a few minutes and wash your hair and scalp with shampoo and conditioner.  Do this once a day until the flakes disappear.

All day hairspray

Hair can get dull and frizzy during the course of the day or under the hot sun.  To keep your hair revitalized and manageable, you can make your own hairspray using lemon or orange.   Chop one lemon or orange fruit and place it in a cup adding two cups water.  Bring the solution to a boil until half of the water evaporates. Let it cool and strain and put the solution in a spray bottle. Store the hairspray in a refrigerator and bring with you as an all-day hair spray that will not damage your hair.

If you want to improve your health and vitality levels then one of the best things you can do is adopt an alkaline diet. I've got 3 great alkaline diet recipes for you :-)

You should aim for a 70:30 ratio of alkaline to acidic foods.

In my and many other people's experience, if you try and eat 100% alkaline foods, it is really too difficult to sustain and doesn't allow for some foods that should be enjoyed sparingly, like fruit.

It is better to go for 70:30 than 'fall off the wagon' completely, trying to achieve a 100% alkaline diet.

Here are 3 easy, quick and tasty alkaline diet recipes: The first is a lovely tasty curry. Herbs and spices are very alkalizing so use these freely in all your food preparation and cooking. The second recipe is a slightly sweet avocado salad. Avocadoes are absolutely wonderful foods - full of Omega 3 essential oils and one for the only alkaline fruits, a real super food. The third recipe is a good old classic salad. You really can't go wrong with eating a big salad every day - dark green leafy vegetables are amazingly alkalizing so knock yourself out :-) Enjoy!

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - 3 Top Alkaline Diet Recipes

Well for all you basic seaweed enthusiasts most will know right off the bat when someone mentions the word kelp or irish moss. These seem to be the two most common forms of edible seaweed available today. But for those wishing to expand their seaweed horizon to a new level then there are some new forms of seaweed now fresh in stock on our shelves at Florida Herb House or http://www.sharpweblabs.com.

We are excited to welcome four new premium wildharvested seaweeds, (HiJiki, Arame, Applewood Dulse, and California Sea Palm), to our herb stores. While not a common to their kelp brothers and sisters these seaweeds deliver as promised. Whether you are cooking a fine cuisine dish or simply want to reap the most vitamins and minerals per ounce then have a look at these.

Hijiki is a seaweed, similar to arame seaweed. Hijiki is a black, slightly bitter tasting seaweed and is sold dried in short course strips. Hijiki is best used in dishes that require slow cooking. The Okinawa people simmer hijiki with soybeans and vegetables. They soak the soybeans and hijiki overnight. Hijiki like other seaweeds is a rich source of iron, protein, calcium, zinc and iodine. Hijiki is also a good source of Lignans which are beneficial with respect to cancer.

Arame is a good introduction to seaweed because of its mild taste. It blends well with other flavors and is a rich source of iron. Arame can be steamed, sauteed, added to soup, or eaten in salads. Arame and all other seaweed, is a rich source of calcium, zinc and iodine. It is also a good source of Lignans which help fight cancer.
Because it comes from the sea, seaweed contains sodium. It should be avoided by anyone on a sodium-restricted diet. Wakame has the highest sodium content, with kelp having significantly less.

Our Applewood dulse is smoked in a applewood scent and is truly remarkable. This dulse from the northern Atlantic is high in protein, iron, B-12, chlorophyll, enzymes, and fiber. Great raw, right out of the bag. Snip pieces and add to salads, eggs, or grains. Make an Almond-Waldorf Salad (recipe on package). Fry it for a vegetarian DLT sandwich!

Our California Sea Palm is in stock and ready for you to try. Similar to Kelp but different in taste this is a must try. A northern California treasure, noodle-like sea palm becomes a favorite of anyone who tries it. Enjoy its mild flavor. For a gourmet treat, cover ¼ oz sea palm with water, simmer for 5 minutes. Allow to cool. Peel sections of 1 grapefruit and toss with slices of 2 avocados. Add sea palm whole or in pieces. Sprinkle liberally with sea salt or table salt. Exotic!

Sincerely,

Stephen C. Sharp

is my diet any good?

This is what I've eaten today:

Breakfast:Smoothie,Grapes and A kiwi fruit.

Lunch:Wholemeal Pitta Bread with Rocket and Hummus

Snack:Clementine

Dinner:Tomato,Mozzerella, and Avocado salad with basil leaves, black pepper and balsamic vinegar.

The diet is just fine - just add some walking as excersise and you'll be able to treat yourself from time to time. Just add a little more protein to your dinners.

What are the best fruits to put in a smoothie if I want to get the most antioxidants in one serving?

All fresh fruits are good options. Firstly, aim to consume at least two portions of fruit a day, but you can happily increase that to four.

I would also always suggest those that are in season. And, if you are looking to get the most value, then always go for variety. Remember fruits are also typically nutritious in a variety of other ways. They contain fiber, have vitamins and minerals that are not necessarily antioxidants, and have naturally occurring phyto-chemicals unique to foods.

The USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging in Boston has developed an assay called ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity), which qualifies the antioxidant capacity of foods. Fresh blueberries have a high level of ORAC, 2 400 per 100g.

Bass Recipe

3 Medium ripe bananas
750ml low fat yoghurt
3 tablespoons honey
Blend together and store in the fridge
Makes 4 portions

Hangover Soother

Add:

4 large pieces of seeded watermelon
1 kiwi fruit (either juiced or blended without the skin, which adds more pulp)
Juice of half a lime
2 hulled strawberries, cut into eighths
Ice, to serve

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Garnish with a thin spear made from the watermelon rind.

Why? This mix contains ultra-hydrating watermelon, vitamin B3-rich kiwi fruit, vitamin C-packed lime and antioxidant-rich strawberries. Keeping the watermelon seeds in ups the antioxidant content further, plus watermelon is very high in vitamin A, great for a detox.

Immunity Booster

Add:

2 tbsp fresh grated ginger
Half tbsp cayenne pepper
Juice of 1 lemon
Juice of 1 green apple

Blend all ingredients until smooth.

Why? Packed with warming spices to ward off bacteria. Ginger is a strong antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. It's also good for fever and headaches, while cayenne pepper's B vitamins, zinc and vitamins C and E ease sore throats.

Mood Lifter

Add:

Half mango pitted and peeled
8 fresh blueberries
1 tsp ground flax seeds
Juice of half a lemon
1 tsp omega-3 oils
Ice, to serve

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Garnish with lemon and fresh blueberries.

Why? By adding a teaspoon of oil as well as the natural oil of some ground flaxseeds you can help your body combat mood swings. Ground flaxseeds are a great source of B vitamins, protein, zinc and omega-3 essential fats that aid brain function and balance blood sugar levels, thus balancing your mood.

Stress Buster

Add:

8 leaves of fresh mint
2 quarter-slices of avocado, skinned
Half cup fresh roughly chopped fennel
1 cup pineapple juice (fresh if possible)
Ice, to serve

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Garnish with sprigs of fresh mint and a pineapple leaf.

Why? The mint in this 'breakfast drink' both soothes and stimulates, while the B vitamins in avocado, fennel and pineapple calm the nervous system. Fennel promotes the function of the kidneys and liver, while settling digestive system spasms associated with stress.

Using organic food remedies for beauty and health is definitely not a new concept. In fact, people have been relying on such before the coming of the Industrial Age.

Modernization may have brought us a lot of convenience, but there are now growing populations of people who are seeking to go back to their "organic roots" in the quest to find the perfect anti aging products.

Organic foods are quite beneficial on their own. These have undergone the least amount of processing and preservation. The "raw" materials and the products used to sustain them are all derived from nature.

This means that there are no synthetic chemicals, fertilizers or genetically modified enhancements to worry about.

So how exactly do you use organic foods as anti aging remedies? Here's how:

1. Try to find the viable fruits that have the highest amounts of Vitamin C or Vitamin E components that can help in anti-oxidation. And try to utilize these in more ways than one.

A wonderful example for this would be the innocuous avocado. Aside from containing high levels of Vitamin B, biotin and folic acid, one small avocado fruit contains about 58 grams of mono-saturated fats, 3 mg. of Vitamin E and 32 mg. of Vitamin C. It also contains 25 mg. of calcium.

All these are necessary in cell regeneration which can help speed up the rehabilitation of dry and damaged skin. The mono-saturated fats help promote skin elasticity, making it look more youthful in appearance.

You can incorporate a small amount of avocado with your meals: taking it as it, as a health drink or part of a dish. You can also create an avocado mask made of pureed avocado mixed with a dash of lime or a spoonful of honey.

This also works well with rolled oats. Other examples of such organic fruits that are rich in Vitamin C and E are: kiwifruit, mangoes, papayas, raspberries, strawberries, etc.

2. Try to favor more organic vegetables and fruits; and cook them with organic seasoning - at the least amount of cooking time as possible. There are three elements here:

One: you could incorporate these organic vegetables into your daily meal plans: blueberries, Brazil nuts, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, citrus fruits, cranberries, green tea, kale, prune, raisin, spinach and tomato.

These are the ones that have the best sources of Vitamin C and E which you could take as much as you want. Organic foods like almonds, olive oil, sesame oil and red wine also contain these essential vitamins, but should be taken in moderation.

Two: instead of favoring the already bottled marinades and sauces, you could try making your own using organic fruits, vegetable and seasoning (like sea salt, freshly grated pepper, freshly chopped tomatoes, etc.) You can gain the most benefit from going organic big time, as opposed to simply using one or two organic products.

Lastly: the cooking process can destroy many essential nutrients including the very fragile Vitamin C. So if you are indeed whipping up a dish, try to choose the ones that have the least amount of cooking time.

Grilling is always a great option especially for fish steaks - a dash of organic lime just before serving will add more levels of Vitamin C to your meal. If the dish needs a longer cooking time, you may want to reserve fresh, uncooked vegetables and fruits as a side salad to counter the loss of vitamins in the cooking process.

Note for those not familiar with the pH scale

The pH scale measures whether or not a substance is an acidic or alkaline: An acid has a pH of less than 7. The lower the pH the stronger the acid. pH 7 is neutral. An alkaline has a pH of more than 7. The highest pH is 14, which is the strongest alkaline.

You are what you eat?

-This saying is not accurate. It's not really true either. However, what is accurate and true is 'You are what you digest and absorb.'

Take, for instance, the example of fruits. They have an acid pH, but after eating and digesting, many types of fruits absorbed into the body then become alkaline. They give an alkaline ash residue.

Any foods that produce an alkaline ash residue when absorbed into the body are called alkaline foods. Foods that give an acid ash residue when absorbed into the body are called acid foods. It is important to distinguish the differences when choosing a healthy diet.

Getting it right...

Ideally, for optimum nutrition a good diet should strike a balance between 80%/20% alkaline/acid foods respectively. Ideally, your pH should be around 7.4.Before I list what foods are available to strike this right ratio in favour of the alkaline diet, it has been well noted that many people are out of balance. The reason being that there has been a rise over the years of not so good, or even downright poor nutrition, such as those containing trans-fats, certain saturated fats, refined sugars, starchy carbohydrates...This has given rise to higher acid foods and a predominantly more acid ash residue in the body. It comes as no surprise to me that the rise in acid foods correlates with the increase of the major life-threatening illnesses, cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes...over the last 60 years or so.

So what are the possible benefits of an alkaline diet?

v Feel more alive and alert

v More able to concentrate better

v Far less prone to mood swings...

v Need less sleep

v Feel more willing to do exercise

v Serves as a strong prevention against disease

v Slows down the ageing process

The Alkaline diet Includes: The vegetables Spinach, asparagus, broccoli, carrots, celery, cucumber, lettuce, courgette, cabbage, greens, swede, squash (summer, butternut, yellow etc), peppers, chilli, tomato, onion, garlic, chickpeas, pinto beans, kidney beans, spring onions, root ginger, and aquatic vegetables such as sea kelp and sea dulse.

Salad Recommendations

Avocado, celery, cucumber, dandelion greens, kale, lettuce, rocket, spinach, walnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts...i.e. any nuts accept cashews and peanuts. Seeds of different sorts such as pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, flax or any sprouted seed... and watercress. Some Herbs and Spices...

Basil, parsley, coriander, ginger, garlic and dandelion greens...

what can i substitute for an avocado in a recipe?

Im not a fan of avocadoes, and am seeking a similar/equivalent substitute for an avocado in most recipes where one is called for.
To clarify, specifically more for dips and salads, is what I am seeking to substitute the avocado for.

if is a stuffed Avocado use tomato
if just in salad omit

Avocado oil is renowned for its healing, anti-bacterial, and anti-wrinkle properties. Technically a fruit, unrefined Avocado Oil is cold pressed from avocado pear and is deep green slightly brownish in colour, while refined Avocado oil is pale yellow.

The unrefined version of avocado oil with deep penetrating qualities has strong aroma and is rich in vitamin A, D, lecithin, potassium and chlorophyll. This moisturizing oil is beneficial for rash, eczema, mature, parched and aging skin. Refined avocado oil is preferred because it is odorless and is used during intensive facial treatment for mature skin.

Rich in vitamin A, B1, B2, panthothenic acid and essential fatty acids; hence its regenerative properties and restructuring powers keep the skin moisturized, and elastic.

The lecithin and phytosterols make it excellent oil for massage: easily absorbed and silky. The penetrative powers of this oil is much more than other oils, thus it is ideal massage oil for skin and body treatments. It stimulates the collagen metabolism, increasing the proportion of soluble collagen in the dermis, helps in cell regeneration, retards visible signs of aging and remarkably softens the skin. It is also very useful when treating sun or climate damaged skin that is dehydrated and under nourished. Avocado oil is very safe to use in cosmetics because it suitable for all skin types, eliminating concern for allergic reactions. It's also a good stimulant for hair.

The avocado fruit holds similar qualities of avocado oil for skin nourishment. Vitamin E provides moisturizing properties for smooth silky skin. Vitamin E decreases harmful effects of solar radiation, reduces UV induced damage and decreases skin redness after sun exposure. The fruit when rubbed topically on dry and sun damaged skin moisturizes and soothes the affected area. The skin of avocado fruit when rubbed like a loofah exfoliates the dead skin.

For a natural sunscreen, pour some zinc oxide into a bottle half full of avocado oil and shake well. Apply on skin that is exposed to the sun.

Mix 10 drops of lavender essential oil to 1 oz of avocado oil. Massage this oil for a soothing back rub for 15 - 20 minutes.

For Avocado facial mask, mash 1 ripe avocado. For dry skin add 1 tsp of avocado oil. Mix well; apply the mask to face and throat area and chill out. Place a towel dipped in hot water over face firmly to remove the mask. Next splash your face with the toner mixed with a drop of avocado oil.

For dry and wrinkled skin, blend 4 drops of frankincense, 2 drops each of rose and neroli oils and 20 ml of avocado oil. This blend is good for rejuvenation, induces relaxation and sleep if used at bed time.

Avocado fruit turns brown? for a face mask?

I recently use avocado for my face, and i only use a bit of it,then the rest put it in a plastic bag and in the fridge.then the next day,the upper part of the fruit turns brown,is it okay to still use it for a face mask? it turns brown rather quickly..is it advisable to put in lemon juice so that it wont oxidised? but then its for the face..im afraid.

it oxidized, your face will be fine if you still use it
if you add lemon also it wont affect your face either, itll actually aid by cleaning your face more

Take henna powder, around 4-5 tbsp if you want to apply it only around the area which has gray hair and more if you want to apply to your entire scalp. Make a thin paste of henna powder by adding juice of lemon, a tbsp of curd, a tsp of coffee powder (optional), the water of tea leaves and amla mixture which you prepared earlier. Add ½ tsp of mustard oil in this mixture to avoid dryness. Leave this mixture in an iron vessel for about 2 hours. During winter season you add a finely grounded paste of 2 cloves to elude cold. Apply the mixture on the hair carefully, cover gray hair completely. Leave this on for about 3-4 hours. (Some prefer to keep it overnight.) Then rinse off with water.

Mix coffee powder in the water and make a paste of henna with the water. Beat the egg yolk and mix this into henna. Also add brandy to it. Apply the paste and leave it on for 3-4 hours before washing it with lukewarm water.

If your goal is to cover grey hairs, try making a mixture of rosemary and sage. Mix the ingredients in water and allow them to simmer for about a half hour. Once it has simmered, remove the pan from the heat and allow the mixture to steep for a few hours. Apply to the hair and let it dry completely. Then wash and rinse your hair with your normal shampoo. When it has dried, you will see the results. If you want the hair darker, make another mixture and repeat the process.

Take 3 parts of litharge and 2 of quicklime, mix thoroughly; keep in a well stopped bottle. When used mix with water or milk, apply to the hair, and envelope in an oil-skin cap fur 5 or 6 hours.

The only things I can think of are peroxide and bleach for blonde, but both are not so good for your hair. Beet juice tends to stain your hands, but it would probably make your hair purple and come out the next time you wash it.

Dishwashing soap can effectively remove hair dye stains, especially when mixed with either baking soda or lemon juice. Simply rub over the area until the stains fade. If you want to be a red head, consider using kool aid for your homemade hair dye. This gives a very vibrant shade of red, depending on how it is done. Mix the powder with a little water and apply to the hair. Allow the mixture to sit on the hair. The timing will depend on how bright you want the color. You can reapply this mixture if you want the red to be a darker shade.

Milk Mask is one if the easiest and cheapest mask. Moist some cotton wool with milk and rub it on the face. Avocado is a naturally affluent moisturizer. Mush the meat of the avocado into a creamy texture. Massage into the face and neck. Leave on for 15 minutes and gently wash off. The best face mask made included fresh pineapple, organic oats and acacia honey. Take 3 tablespoons of oats and blend in mix till a fine powder. Add in a tablespoon of honey and three big slices of pineapple sheared into small pieces. Blend until a fine paste. Apply with a mask brush and retire for fifteen minutes - it may cause blemishes to tingle slightly but this is okay. Rinse with warm water.

do we get avocado fruit in india what is it called?

It is available in large metro areas such as Bombay or Delhi.
It is not one the more readily availble fruits in India.

Look for Makhan-Phal

If you are allergic to banana then you suffer from allergies Type 1 or contact allergy. The protein found in banana called chitinase, causes the immune system in some individuals to overreact and treat the protein as harmful to your body. The reason the body overacts to certain foods is not clear and more studies are needed. The protein called chitinase is also found in avocado and kiwi fruit.

Bananas originated in Malaysia around 2,000 B.C. and then spread throughout the Philippines and India. Alexander the Great recorded them being grown in India in 327 B.C. Today bananas are grown in most tropical and subtropical regions around the world with the main commercial producers located in Central America. With the development of rapid transportation bananas have become widely available.

To be allergic to banana you body's immune system must be overacting to the banana protein chitinase. Another cause of the allergy reaction could be due to intolerance to bananas and not a true allergy reaction. This intolerance could be caused by Vaso-active amines.

Vaso-active amines are histamine like substances that occur naturally in foods and can trigger symptoms that can mimic allergy reactions. Vaso-active amines are called histamine, phenyl-ethylamine, serotonin, tyramine and dopamine.

Serotonin is found in banana, and the symptom of serotonine ingestion include cramping, flushing of the skin, headache, and heart palpitations. The severity of the symptoms is dependent on the amount the histamine like substance ingested and the lack of the histamine metabolizing enzyme diamine oxidase in your system.

Most food allergy or food intolerance reactions usually happen within a few minutes to a few hours after eating the bananas. Most mild to moderate reactions last less than a day and can involve a rash on the skin, cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, runny nose, watery eyes, wheezing and coughing.

For individually that are allergic to banana symptoms may not appear or the symptoms may be to mild to be noticed the first few times bananas are eaten. Sensitivity can develop over time and can start out very mild and slowly develop into life-threatening allergic reactions.

A cross-reaction is also a very common problem in individuals who are allergic to banana. If a person suffers from an allergic reaction to the protein in bananas a possibility to being allergic to the same proteins in latex is very high. Other foods to watch out for cross-reaction are avocado, kiwi and chestnut.

Always consult your doctor before using this information.

If you know anyone with dry itchy skin you know how hard it can be to get relief.  Rather than just applying a cream for dry skin care, you need to focus on several issues.  First, let's look at some of the causes of dry itchy skin.

If you have not had the condition evaluated by a dermatologist, you might want to consider it, although you can try to take care of the problem yourself.  Typically, it is a lack of essential fatty acids in the diet, particularly omega-3s that lead to excessive dryness.

For dry skin care, you can supplement omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.  There are some really good fish oil supplements on the market.  You can also supplement the fatty acids by applying them directly.

Grape seed and avocado oils are rich in essential fatty acids.  Grape seed is a little lighter and can be worn throughout the day.  Avocado oil is primarily found in night creams, as it is a little heavier.

Your dry itchy skin may be caused by the chlorine in your water.  If you have not already done so, you may want to consider a showerhead filter.  Chlorine and other chemicals strip the essential fatty acids right out of our outermost layers.  Compounds commonly found in lotions, creams and other skin care products will also reduce skin's natural oils.

I recommend that you avoid some of the big brand names, because they are composed primarily of petroleum byproducts.  On dry itchy skin, these compounds improve the condition initially, but eventually, they will leave you feeling drier and itchier than ever.  The ingredients to avoid include petrolatum, paraffin and mineral oil.

You should be drinking about 3 liters of purified water per day.  While soda manufacturers advertise that their products are hydrating, they have twisted the facts.  During surveys, the RDA teams found that some people do not drink water, but are not suffering from obvious dehydration.  Drinking plain water is the best choice for hydrating the body and it an important part of dry skin care.

Night creams will help relieve dry itchy skin more than any other products.  Avoid the ingredients that I mentioned above and shop for all natural, safe, preservative and fragrance-free products.  They may be a little more difficult to find, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Effective ingredients for dry skin care nighttime cream include manuka honey, avocado extract, Shea butter, Functional Keratin, coenzyme Q10, vitamin E and palm oil.  That may seem like a lot to ask for, but there is at least one cream that contains all of them.

For dry itchy skin, I would have to say that Functional Keratin has the most proven effectiveness.  In clinical studies, Functional Keratin has been shown to heal dermatitis in a very short time.  It was originally studied as a treatment for detergent-related dermatitis.  It's an inflammatory response to harsh detergents, sometimes referred to as dish pan hands.  The symptoms include redness, cracking, excessive dryness and itching.

Being aware of the causes, and the treatments that really work allows you to find the right dry skin care solutions.  You will be more comfortable and look better, too.

avocado fruit
avocado fruit
ok my intellectuals, here's a random question,is an avocado a fruit or veggie?

now give me a reason why to your choosing of the fruit or veggie and oh by the way, avocado is like my favorite thing to put on everything.just thought i let you know to those who might be wondering why i would ask this.thanks for the answers.

I would say it was a fruit, because it is the seed bearing product of a plant. Similarly, Tomatoes, Eggplant and Zucchini are all fruits as well. In fact a Vegetable would be something like Spinach, Swiss Chard or rhubarb where you actually eat the plant itself, not the end product of the flowers or reproductive stage of the plant.

Cheers,

How long Will This Take?

Getting food from our mouths to our stomach, digesting it and then emptying our colon is something we humans spend a lot of time doing. When we suffer from constipation that whole process can seem like an eternity. Have you ever wondered how long the whole process takes?

Since we eat different foods at different times and come in all shapes and sizes, the average transit times (like commuting to and from work!) are only estimates scientists have reached, when studying digestion.

The estimates are that it takes about 21/2 to 3 hours for the stomach to be at least 50% emptied, with total emptying times about 4-5 hours. Then there is the small intestine transit time of another 2-3 hours, with colon transit times between 30 and 40 minutes.

It would be impossible to get exact transit times because food doesn’t move through the digestive process all together. Foods don’t always get processed in the same order as they came in- some of the food from the same meal will be in the colon, while another portion remains in the stomach.

A meal is a mixture of several types of chemicals and materials. It’s a miracle the body knows what to do with everything, but it does. Sometimes the choices we make will effect the transit time unpleasantly, and that can mean problems with constipation. One of the best foods to get the journey back on track is fruit. Enjoying at least two fruits a day can keep the transit police happy. (Is that the sound of happy people’s toilet’s flushing?)

Top Ten Fruits

Fruits are made by nature- a perfect food. They are easy to digest and absorb. Fruits are your colon’s friends. If you ever suffer from constipation, you’ll want to reach for fresh fruit. Here’s a look at the top ten fruits that help improve constipation.

  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Strawberries
  • Prunes
  • Papaya
  • Orange
  • Apple
  • Pears
  • Figs
  • Avocado

Fruits offer many health benefits
, including providing vitamins and nutrients, but this list have added benefits for sluggish bowels. Can you guess what these fruits pack a punch with? Did you answer fiber? Thought so!

These fruits are packed full of fiber. Let’s take dried figs. 5 figs will supply 237 calories, with 8.5 grams of fiber for every 100 of those calories. One cup of raspberries, at 60 calories will help get things moving with 8 grams of fiber.

Most of us have already been told how fiber is so good for us. It’s great to know that you don’t have to down bowl after bowl of bran to get rid of constipation. In fact, if you aren’t used to a lot of fiber in the diet, it can make you feel bloated, gassy and more uncomfortable than being constipated did in the first place.

More Fruits to the Rescue

Don’t worry if the fiber-rich fruits on the top ten lists don’t appeal to you. Most fruits are naturals at gently relieving constipation. Here’s a list of other fruits you might want to add to your diet:

  • Apricots
  • Blueberries
  • Boysenberries
  • Cantaloupes
  • Cherries
  • Dates
  • Grapes
  • Peaches
  • Plums

The combination of fiber (which is usually provided by the skin, so don’t peel that apple!) and sugars that are harder for the body to digest, makes fruits a good bet for clearing bouts of constipation. Since the body can’t break down the sugar, it pushes it out. You might say that fruit are nature’s laxative. They also act as toners to the stomach and intestines.

Other Transit tips

Need some other suggestions to get traffic flowing again? First of all, if you’ve suffered from constipation for a while and it doesn’t seem to be getting better, it may be something more than just a nuisance. It’s wise to have it checked out by your physician. Here are some other tips for relieving constipation:

  • It’s not only what you eat; it’s how you are eating. Be sure that you are not rushing to eat meals and eating at odd times. Make sure you chew your food. Digestion starts in the mouth. Saliva has enzymes that work chemically on your food before you even swallow. Each mouthful should be chewed at least 15 times.
  • Stay away from foods that contain white flour and sugar.
  • Drink lots of water- just not with your meals, as it dilutes gastric juices needed for digestion. A cup of hot water with some lemon can help with constipation.

You’ll find that making a conscious effort to add fruits to your diet will make a lasting difference in helping you avoid constipation.

Stay away from chocolate, cakes and other foods which are too sugary.

Dietary experts recommend that every person should eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. The importance of fruits and vegetables to a healthy diet has been known for quite some time, but studies have shown that very few people eat the amount of fruits and vegetables recommended for a healthy diet.

That's a shame, since eating a sufficient number of fruits and vegetables just may be the single most effective thing you can do to improve your overall health. The five a day approach to healthy eating may be the single most important strategy you can adopt for a healthier lifestyle.

The many health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables have been established for quite some time now. Study after study has shown that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables lowers the risk of certain cancers, heart disease and other chronic diseases and conditions. Some studies have suggested that as many as 35% of cancer deaths can be attributed to diet, and that diets high in fats and low in fruits and vegetables contributes to unnecessary cancer deaths.

Fruits and vegetables have a lot of advantages besides just their nutritional importance. For one thing, they taste great and add a great deal of variety to everyday meals. Fruits and vegetables come in such a wide variety of colours, textures and flavours that they can be used in virtually every meal. Those seeking to maximize their consumption of fruits and vegetables should get into the habit of using fruits in salads, as toppings and as garnishes.

In addition to their great taste, fruits and vegetables are packed full of many essential vitamins and minerals, including many micronutrients that are not included in packaged vitamin supplements. For instance, foods like butternut squash, pumpkins, carrots, mangoes, peaches, pawpaws and green leafy vegetables are rich in beta carotene. Beta carotene is vital for healthy skin and eyes.

In addition, most varieties of fruits and vegetables contain vitamin C, another important vitamin and a strong antioxidant. Good sources of vitamin C include Brussels sprouts, citrus fruits, strawberries, broccoli, nectarines and kiwi fruit. Many fruits and vegetables, including spinach, broccoli and avocadoes, are also good sources of vitamin E, another excellent antioxidant.

Men and women alike should always strive to eat a healthy diet, but women have an extra incentive to get all the nutrition they need. Proper nutrition is essential to a healthy pregnancy, and some of the baby's biggest nutritional needs happen before the pregnancy is discovered. Folic acid is perhaps the best known essential nutrient for pregnant women. Folic acid has been proven effective at preventing a variety of birth defects, including Spina Bifida. Good dietary sources of folic acid include Brussels sprouts, broccoli, spinach and oranges. In addition, due to its importance to women of child bearing years, many common foods such as cereals and breads, are supplemented with folic acid.

In addition to their importance as source of vitamins and minerals, fruits and vegetables also provide essential dietary fibre. Adequate fibre in the diet is important in preventing heart disease and some kinds of cancer.

Another great feature of fruits and vegetables, especially to those watching their weight, is the high nutrition, low fat, low calorie nature of these foods. Fruits and vegetables contain very low levels of fats, and a diet low in fat can be quite effective for long term weight loss. In addition, fruits and vegetables contain no cholesterol, and they are lower in calories than many other types of foods.

With all these things going for them, it is no wonder so many dietary experts recommend eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Not only are fruits and vegetables delicious and nutritious, but they can be quite inexpensive as well. Buying fruits and vegetables that are locally grown, and that are in season, is usually the most cost effective way to get the freshest fruits and veggies at the lowest possible cost.

This buying strategy also helps to ensure a steady stream of new fruits and vegetables every month, as some go out of season while others are just coming in. Trying a variety of different fruits and vegetables, including some you may not be familiar with, is also a great way to create exciting new dishes and prevent you from becoming bored with the same old diet. Whether your goal is to lose weight or just increase your level of fitness, it is hard to go wrong with a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.

The golden principle-do more physical activity and avoid too many calories. Discipline and the strength of your will depend only on you, but we will help with some tips.

1.  Don’t starve

If you start taking a severe diet, you will lose lots of weight, which is mainly water and energy from your muscles, after what you will shortly start regaining your pounds, since your body will start reserving everything from every calorie it receives. The outcomes of the severe dieting might be very drastic: breaking down the metabolism, the lack of vitamins and nutritious matters, psychological problems and bad mood.  Remember that your organism has to get all the necessary nutritious elements. Depending on the type of work and way of living (sedentary work, physical activity), you have to get approximately 1500-2500 kcal. Those who burn more energy during the day must consume over 3000kcal

2.  Do sports

You will achieve best results if you combine diet with sports. Besides 30 min of daily physical activity reduce the early death risk by one fourth. If you didn’t do sports before, start from simple strolls or swimming in the sea or lake. Summer is the best time for it! It will not only refresh you, but also will help you to firm your most problematic zones.

3. Limit your meal portions

Don’t put too much on your plate. Instead use smaller plates to avoid this. Control the portions. Don’t cook for several servings if you eat by yourself.

4. Drinks can be caloric too

All drinks, except for water, have calories. Did you know that a glass of 2% fat milk had 20 calories more than the same glass of fruit juice? But milk is more useful to our body.
And alcohol-a true caloric bomb. A glass of sweet dessert wine has even 225 kcal. Alcohol and diet are simply incompatible things. When we use alcohol, the organism stops burning fat and starts separating alcohol. This ruins your diet plans and stops the process of weight dropping. Avoid various soda drinks. In summer it’s better to use cold green tea.

5.  Avoid white flour products

Avoid white bread. If you find one, buy brown bread. Eliminate all the rolls, donuts, cakes and cookies.

6. Sometimes be more lenient to yourself

If you’re overwhelmed by the huge urge to eat something tasty, don’t punish yourself too harsh and have a bite. Of course, we recommend you o choose something from slightly healthier desserts: jelly, fruit gummies, dry fruits, sherbets, cornflakes. If you did eat something more caloric, try to use fewer calories on your next meal.

7. Prefer bright and dark color vegetables and fruits

Distinctly bright color vegetables and fruits have more antioxidants which protect your body from the harmful effect of the free radicals. For example, apples, broccoli, cabbages and spinaches have lutein which is useful for the hydration, elasticity and your eyes. Avocados and green leafy vegetables have vitamin E which strengthens the membranes of the cells and can protect from the wrinkles. The more colorful fruits and vegetables you have on your table, the wider range of vitamins you get.

8. Write a diary of your diet

This might seem quite weird, but writing a diary would let you feel discipline better. You can also write down the entire week menu so that you don’t have to think what to eat, because eating in a rush and not to the plan might bring extra calories. Write down what’s most difficult while being on a diet. Let your diary be your diet companion and guide. Instead of complaining to your husband or your best friend how it’s hard to keep to the diet, better write it in your diary.

Your question is impossible to answer with what is currently provided.

To calculate, we would need the quantities of each item. For example the first line. 1/2 cup fruit salad? 1/2 cup yogurt? 1/2 cup muesli?

You'll need to input the food into the program to see yourself, but that is a very low calorie diet, provided quanties are reasonable.

You\'ve probably been hearing a lot about the value of a raw foods diet. A raw food diet consists primarily of uncooked, unprocessed fruits, vegetables, sprouts, seaweed, nuts and juices. It\'s a vegetarian diet, but one that rejects any animal products. Its central tenet is that cooking and processing take out the majority of essential vitamins, enzymes and nutrients that our bodies evolved to thrive on.

Fruitarians, as the word implies, eat primarily fruits, with nuts and grains as well. A fruitarian diet also includes foods like tomatoes or avocadoes, which are fruits. Fruit is nourishing and refreshing for your health. It doesn\'t clog the body\'s vital arteries; better still, it actually flushes and cleanses. A fruit diet also lightens our bodies and spirits, in line with the general lightening of our planetary vibration rate which many higher sources tell us is taking place at this time.

You need to eat carefully if you choose a fruitarian diet, because it can be more of a challenge to get enough essential protein in your diet. A fruitarian eats nothing which has been killed or stolen. That supplants meat, dairy, and plants with the thousands of fruit and nut combinations on the planet. E.g., a fruitarian can eat an avocado sandwich, a coconut milk shake or the purest coconut ice cream made from the milk and meat of the fruit, veggie burgers made of lentil or bean paste or tofu, a succotash of corn, limas, peas, and tomatoes, sweets made with pure maple syrup or date sugar, pecan pies made with fruit sugars, fruit shakes made of a mixture of orange and banana, pear and peach, pomegranate, papaya, and plum. A pizza of tofu, tomato, and pepper (not pepperoni), salads of tomato, cucumber, green and red peppers (but not lettuce, cabbage, or celery), nut butters such as almond butter or tahini, hummus

chickpea paste}. In other words, fruitarian may eat fruits 99.9% of the time, but occasionally do indulge in the delicacies of other food groups.

The breastfeeding vegetarian diet doesn\'t vary all that much from the pregnancy vegetarian diet. Protein recommendations are the same, vitamin B-12 recommendations are higher, and the recommendations for iron and calories are lower than during pregnancy. But the key in ensuring your healthy vegetarian diet is also helping you recover from the stresses of giving birth and taking care of your newborn is healthy fats. Healthy fats and oils play active roles in every stage of the body\'s healing, building, and maintenance processes. In fact, they are as important to an active individual\'s body as amino acids, minerals, and vitamins. Healthy fats and oils help convert light and sound into electrical nerve impulses, remove potentially toxic substances from sensitive tissue, and provide strength to cell membranes.

The key is in balancing fats from a variety of foods. All foods that contain dietary fat contain a combination of fatty acids-the chemical building blocks of fat. Learning about the mixture of fatty acids in your diet will help you figure out how to choose foods with the good fats and avoid those foods that contain the bad fats. For healthy fats, look to monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. These can readily be found in a variety of vegetables, oils, and nuts, such as avocados, almonds, and olive oil. These help your body to resist attack from free radicals, which are specially formed types of atoms that can damage your body\'s cells when they react with DNA or cell membranes-better than other fats and thus are less prone to stick to your arteries.

Polyunsaturated fats occur in food either as omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids. The key to eating healthy polyunsaturated fats is to maintain the right balance of omega-3 acids-found abundantly in flax, walnuts and canola oil-with omega-6 acids, found in vegetable oils such as corn, safflower and sesame.

are avocados fruit or vegetable
Avocado - Fruit or Vegetable?

I think is a vegetable

an avacardo is a fruit and vegatable.
weird huh!!!

Let's start with some facts:

  1. Fruit and vegetables bring amazing health benefits
  2. We need to educate children about the benefits of eating fruit and vegetables
  3. Children need to adopt a healthier diet to avoid health and obesity problems in later life

All simple statements, but in practice it’s not so easy getting kids to eat more healthily which is exactly why it needs to be made fun and interesting.

Fruit is often considered by children as the boring alternative to crisps, chocolate and cakes. And sadly, despite the outstanding health benefits, maybe there is some truth there. Oranges, apples, plums and all the usual run-of-the-mill fruits, salads and vegetables that parents try to smuggle into the lunchbox could well be considered bland.

But apples and oranges are not the be all and end all of fruit. What about the more interesting, exotic fruits and vegetables that readily available on our supermarket shelves? Foods that not only taste delicious and can be incorporated into interesting dishes, but that also look and feel interesting too, stimulating the imagination and sparking natural inquisitiveness into where they came from.

There is a plethora of mouthwatering recipes involving exotic foods just waiting to be tried; keep them simple and your kids can help you with the preparation giving them hands-on experience as well as the opportunity to learn a range of new skills and boost their knowledge of worldwide cultures at the same time. For example, how delectable do these sound?

  • Avocado pear salad with cherry tomatoes, cucumber and crispy lettuce leaves
  • Pineapple fruit salad with ice cream, strawberries, citrus fruits and of course, pineapple!
  • Mango pancakes with strawberry jam
  • Green banana and carrot mash with vegetarian sausages
  • Sweet potato baked chips with a sour cream and chive dip
  • Butternut squash and blueberry treat
  • Plantain ice cream

Children will never fail to find these dishes fun to make, and they will suddenly realise that healthy foods can actually taste good too.

You could also enhance your educational efforts by including educational resources such as books and toys into the healthy eating curriculum. Take a look in your local bookstore, search online or if you are a school or nursery teacher, consult your resources supplier and you will soon come across specialist products that are designed to help younger children recognise and learn about worldwide, exotic foods and healthy eating.

Children are the future; so make sure their future is healthy and packed with the goodness of fruit and vegetables! Make learning about healthy eating fun by introducing children to the exciting world of exotic fruits and vegetables!

avocado mask benefits
What are the benefits of an avocado mud mask?

avocados have lots of Vitamin E which is good for healing your skin.
